Dear Typewriter Chewing Gum Co.,

I would like to see a special subset of Batman cards celebrating the worst blown saves of the year.

What kind of a masochist are you?

No reason to! It will be a week we'll talk about forever, a quick bucket

of swill, some next weekend nailbiting or something in between.

I'm glad it's a full seven-day week of games. Let's get right back at it.

Holy Space-Time conundrum! We packed Batman into the DeLorean time machine and set the dials for Washington D.C, Summer of '69. Batman's mission was to snap up some pics of all-star and emerging Mets batting stud Cleon Jones at RFK stadium for our Batman69 All-Star cards. (available only in Latin America. All-star cards. Test Market. Contracts. Lawyers.) What we forgot was that this Batman, the Adam West version, is strictly a 1966 guy. So he didn't take with him, one of those modern digital cameras with unlimited memory that every nine year old has today so long as they have a smartphone, which they do, which we figured Batman would have in his vaunted utility belt. No. Instead he took a 1966 vintage Minolta camera with, get this, a spent roll of film and enough leftover film for just one snapshot. He couldn't take a modern camera. Shark repellent and anti-radioactive spray he took with him. But not a freakin' modern camera. So Batman gets there, and he's got one shot to get a good shot of ol' Cleon. But wouldn't youse know it -- Cleon wasn't cooperating. Cleon gave us his back, the ol' cold shoulder. Wouldn't give Batman the time of day. Maybe Cleon's a Superman guy. Who knows? Well, Batman did the best he could. Then he came back and went out looking for one of those Kodak kiosks where they can develop your film in 24 hours. Youse don't know what we'se went through with this card.

And speaking of 1969, we tweaked Tom Terrific again. We gave him the Hollywood look. And the whitest teeth in all of baseball.

We'll finish no lower than tied for third. 1 more win or PHI loss and it's sole possession.

I'll bring back a line from my Brooklyn Dodger fandom:

Wait 'till next year!

But in the meantime, let's go out with a bang and kick some Braves ass.

Looking back, I think my give up day ended up being the Matz start in game 1 of the Colorado series. Even after losing to the Dodgers, I found myself thinking "If we win out, then blah blah blah".

But once we lost that first game, I think I knew it was done.

While it is disappointing, the big factor is this:

On September 1, the Mets and Brewers were tied.

The Brewers went 20-4 in September (as of today).

The Mets went 14-10 (as of today).

The Mets did blow a few games in the month, but not enough to make up the difference. Ultimately, the issue is that Milwaukee got hot at just the right time.

and if the Mets bullpen hadn't blown an MLB-leading number of games BEFORE Sept 1, then their lead would have been big enough to withstand a Brewer hot streak.

We were tweaking Jason Vargas the other day, when it was announced that Ric Ocasek had died. So we took a little turn with Vargas's tweak and decided to car it up with his new card. So have some new old eye candy. Eye candy-o. (groan).

It's Fonebone Friday and we're still in a tweaky kind of mood here at Typewriter Chewing Gum, makers of the best Batman Mets baseball cards in the whole wide world. And on this Fonebone Friday, it's Callaway went Thataway Day. And to celebrate, we've got a coupl'a subtle tweaks of ol' 36 himself, Mickey Callaway and OG 36, the Kooz, whose number's gonna be retired pretty soon, even if Gary Carter is whining publically to Dick Young that his #8 should be retired first, because what the hell did Jerry Koosman ever do for the Mets that Gary Carter himself didn't do 20 times over, sez Gary Carter. So good riddance to Mickey and happy 36.

Plus a tweak of Keon Broxton that's so substantial, it's probably a makeover and not a tweak. We made the original Broxton card so long ago that, to tell you the truth, we already forgot who this Broxton character is. Anyone wanna write in and tell us who exactly Keon Broxton is? The best letter will win a free Batman card.

It's 1969 all over again as Abbey Road is the #1 album on the British charts, this on the heels of its 50th anniversary release. It's also the #1 album on the vinyl charts. We here at Typrewriter Chewing Gum are not aloof to this, and so we've re-tweaked our Corey Oswalt card in tribute. One, two three, four, five, six seven. All good children go to heaven. It'd be nice if some of youse, any of youse would actually buy these cards at a store near you to help keep our lights on. But youse never give me your money. (Groan.)

Also, Volkswagen reparks its illegally parked VW in tribute to the 50th anniversary release of Abbey Road.

Thanks.

You're a week late on the birthday wishes.

But I guess you were busy designing those fabulous cards.

Dear Typewriter,

With Noah Syndergaard farting his way down the stretch and across the finish line, it's easy to forget how impressively dominant he was when he was at his best. Do you have a card commemorating the stunning May 2 home game in which he pitched a 1-0 shutout and provided the lone run with a solo homer?

Also, if you were a Batman producer, which actor would be your first call when trying to cast Two-Face?

Peace and good things,

Oswalt Pounders
