    While Luis Torrens has pitched several games for the Mets, I don't think he earned a win. But I think they mentioned when he came in to pitch for the Mets that he got one prior to joining the Mets. Does that count? The wording of the question was kind of nonspecific. Later

    Ya got me. There must have been a lot of Italian American catchers on the Mets since Yogi. Chiti and Chris Cannizzaro not named Piazza. But LoDuca was the only backup who came to mind. They don't haze rookies anymore? What is this world coming to? (I'm getting old) Later

    He was my dark horse pick for this year. He's finally getting the recognition he deserves. He's been a rock, the Swiss Army Knife of the staff. You'd have to wrench him from my cold dead fingers. Later

    What year was that posted? He reached his (mediocre) high point around 2023 and his production has been dropping like a rock ever since. My Canadian friend had him in on his strat team, and cringes at the mention of his name to this day. Please, NO! Despite what the book title says, he CAN'T come home again. Later

    In an ideal(istic) world, I'd trade neither, then wear my walking papers as a badge of honor while I submit to interviews by all New York news outlets , telling them what I was told to do. But since I like to do exotic things, such as eat and pay my mortgage, I'd trade Benge. I think Ewing has the upside of positional flexibility ( he plays Inf and OF) and has a higher upside.. But they'd better be two really f'n good prospects. Later

    Do you think you could get the Tigers to use the squirrels with the school name on a fan give-away night? (maybe first 5,000 fans) They could pick up the cost. Worth a try. Later

    Backup catcher is one of the positions for which there is a ready- made replacement in Syracuse. Chris Morel is a 27 year old journeyman catcher who has accumulated enough time in the majors to have hit about 75 homers (with a .220 average). Sounds like he could replace Torrens pretty easily. (except for maybe the beloved part) Later

    Also- during the HOF weekend, neponouncer joe buck was awarded the ford frick (whether someone else should have won it is fodder for another post) award. but in his acceptance speech, he said, “im the luckiest person on the face of the earth”. It was intentional plagiarism, and he took it from one of the most beloved players in history. That would be like if the pedo- pres said, “ I have a dream”. i dislike him even more. later
