It’s gotta be either Jared young or Nate lavender. AJ Ewing was the Mets #6 prospect. Lavender, #43. And Jared young was effectively a nobody who ascended to our starting 1b. naturally I vote lavender because he was my pick but young was the real dark horse.

Baseball is the only sport where the athletes aren’t allowed to be excited for that thing they just did. football players do this every time they run into another person and knock them over. Which is really something a normal person would apologize for. you put a normal person on a pile of dirt and they buzz a 95 mph fastball past a major league hitter three times and they’d have jumping beans in their shoes too.

99 I like fun and joy. id tell my kid not to do it, but im totally ok with some dude who came from nowhere and fought and clawed all the way up from being a failed nobody nothing from nowhere into the doing his thing in the fucking major goddamn leagues and being ecstatic that he’s actually there, doing it. he’s celebrating that he’s made it, each time. And I’m ok with it. [most of the time]

All things being equal the Mets are a better offense with him than without. however it’s possible the Mets are a better team with his salary applied differently… but I don’t see him opting out this year. Maybe next year, depending on what happens with the cba. But I really like the look of the offense and defense with him being a big part of it next year. And he seems to be becoming part of the culture of the team wherein we desperately need some newfound continuity.
