    I had very low expectations. I honestly thought it was a very risky signing, expecting him to move seamlessly in to a key spot in the rotation after being a short man. But he was really excellent here.

    I mean, sometimes guys fall off the cliff. It happens. Nobody's an ace forever. You hate to see it, because Freddy seems to be a very good dude, but you just don't know.

    I am super excited for this guy. He's nuts. The others are Nate Lavender, making his MLB debut; Dedniel Nunez, back from injury; McDermott, who was the Rortvedt trade; and Christian Pache, into the Tyrone Taylor Memorial Fifth Outfielder Roster Spot.

    I'm with Radar on this. They're right - this team is demonstrably worse now than it was when he took over, and the future overall looks grimmer too. For a team that is supposed to be able to afford the best and the brightest, they're just... not. I saw it in one of these threads here yesterday from someone, and it's spot on: If Stearns' preference is for short-term deals so he's not hamstrung moving forward, then you're going to get guys who will sign short-term deals. Superstars... don't sign short-term deals. They just don't. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it. And I don't like it any more than you.

    The thing with Arraez is that it's really his *only* skill. He's not a good fielder, he can't run, he doesn't have any pop.

    Infielder Sammy Stafura, sez mlb.com. Scouting report: Stafura has spent most of his season at High-A Greensboro. He is slashing .299/.363/.638 with a .420 wOBA, and 139 wRC+. Stafura already has 17 home runs over 201 plate appearances, and has gone 15-for-16 in stolen base attempts. Stafura has a 9.5% walk rate for the Grasshoppers, but has other issues regarding his plate discipline. He has struck out at a 30.3% clip with a called and swinging strike rate of 30%. Stafura’s Scouting Report Stafura is a potential future power-speed threat. He has shown good raw power and has plenty of pop to his pull side. Both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline project his running at 60 grade or better. He used that speed to have back-to-back 30-steal seasons in 2024 and 2025. Plus, that quickness gives him range up the middle. His defensive prowess at shortstop looks good. Along with his range, BA praises his “sure hands and reliable internal clock.” His defense, speed, and pop give him a strong floor of a utility infielder, and his ceiling will be determined by how much his hit tool and plate discipline develop.

    I love that you can actually easily find this stuff now thanks to Statcast. He was 49th among all 209 MLB pitchers with at least 50 IP in Popup%, at 9%. But he was second among all Mets pitchers with at least 50 IP, behind Christian Scott at 10.9%. The popuppiest Met? Guillo at 50%! Popped up two of the four batters he faced. Others: Curry 13.9%, Myers 12.5%, Williams 11.9%, Gerber 9.1%. (And interestingly, new Met Chayce McDermott is at 22.2% through his 10 inning this year.)

    I really liked when we picked him up - I thought he would be a very solid 8th inning type of guy for us. Mendy seemed to like using him as an opener, which is stupid.

    I remember an interview from the spring where he talked about how he used to have all the guys over to his house after games to hang out, and I thought, "hey, maybe this team will have character after all." I was wrong.
