The year we weren't that optimistic, 2024, they did something. The year we were optimistic, 2025, they disappointed. I think this year will be like 2024. The Mets were 10 games under .500 on June 3, 2024 and look where they wound up.

That's true. When people say "there's still time" it doesn't mean that April games don't matter as much as September games do. It means that there's time to put together a hot streak that will negate this awful streak.

I believe they will improve and start playing better, but I feel they are digging themselves into a hole from which they will be unable to fully extricate themselves.  There are just too many holes in this lineup and pitching staff to see them making a playoff run.

I'm not optimistic.  The current roster and organization leave no wiggle room to make the necessary near term changes due to the ages and contracts of some non-performing players, lack of positional prospects ready to be promoted, etc.

And the owner hasn't shown an indication to want to change out the GM who put this together. He keeps having pressers when he tells us things will be OK without major changes. He needs to start a top to bottom reevaluation and put the team back on track.

I voted no , I just don't see this team winning 9 or 10 games in row or getting on a sustained winning streak ....I do hope I'm wrong of course,I was optimistic in the poll before the season, but then again I usually am

It's a no.  Like I said before, even if they turn things around, these early losses are could what keep them from making the playoffs.  This organization doesn't seem to care either. Just blaming it on injuries. Unless major changes are made with management as well as players, I don't see much changing.

Optimistic they'll get better(how could they not) but not optimistic about the division and even playoffs. The hole is getting deeper.

I am always optimistic. Always.

sometimes it’s the only way I can get through the day.

the team is better than they have played.

mind you, I might need to move the goalposts of what my optimism is about… like… winning the division perhaps… but I’m optimistic about… something.

In 2024 they had a bunch of things break the right way in order to go on a run. The good news is there’s plenty of time for that to happen. A few things that can happen realistically:

1. Lindor and Bichette will be much better than they have shown. I think this goes without saying.
2. Soto comes back.
3. Baty and Vientos have never hit in April. I expect both will pick it up. How much they bounce back is TBD
4. Polanco will heal and might be productive.
5. Senga or Peterson might figure it out. Maybe both. I’m a little more inclined to think it will be Peterson.
6. Benge might figure it out.
7. Christian Scott might be good. If not maybe Tong. Or maybe Jack Wenninger.
8. Minter comes back. Ryan Lambert is good. Our pen improves.

of these things, I think only 1 and 2 are a given. Everything else, well. We’re just hoping.

I've changed my opinion from "I'm not optimistic" to "they look like they'll never win another effing game."

Remember when teams looked at their schedule in anticipation of facing the Rockies and White Sox.  It was a time to rack up some wins and strengthen your record.  Well, now I believe most teams look forward to facing the Mets.  It is sad to see how far this team has fallen since last June.

You know? I'm still not optimistic, BUT.

We haven't played anyone in our division yet, and except for the Braves, they've all been almost as shit as we have. Hell, the Phillies have lost seven straight, which in any other context we'd be celebrating. We're "only" four games out of second place, and six and a half out of a wild card spot.

So a lot CAN still happen. It IS early.

But this team is still shit right now.

I guess I'm optimistic that the team will play better because there's simply too much talent for them to keep being this unbelievably shitty.  Before tonight, they have a 139 games left. To get to 85 wins and sniff a wild card, they need to go 78-61 the rest of the way, a .561 winning percentage. That doesn't feel outrageous. Gonna be a wild summer!
