  1. Dr. Google is not terribly optimistic for a speedy return:
  2. The thread title made me lol
  3. I love Lindor. He's not been right early on, physically or mentally it seems. But he's a great player, seemingly a really nice and good-hearted person, and I'm sure "My Girl" is a tribute to his wife or daughters or both. He's the girl daddiest #girldad ever and I'm happy he's on our team. He represents the New York Mets really well.
  4. I guess I'm optimistic that the team will play better because there's simply too much talent for them to keep being this unbelievably shitty. Before tonight, they have a 139 games left. To get to 85 wins and sniff a wild card, they need to go 78-61 the rest of the way, a .561 winning percentage. That doesn't feel outrageous. Gonna be a wild summer!
  5. Lindor using “Stand By Me” tonight seems like a very direct message. Heard, Francisco, heard.
  6. Soto returning to the lineup is like 80s movie parents who come home early to find the kids trashed the house
  7. This is obviously the "Pete Alonso Sucks" thread. He went 2-3 with a walk yesterday, including a go-ahead 2-run homer in the 7th.
  8. I really hope Pete doesn't go the way of Chris Davis (I still love that big, hairy baby), but the one thing that jumped out to me amongst all his early bad numbers is his bat speed. He's consistently been elite (at least 75MPH and 90th percentile and above for several years running). So far this year he's at 73.1, a 2.3 MPH drop from last year that moves him from elite to above-average (66th percentile). He's still strong enough to have elite exit velocities when he hits it, but if he bat is really starting to slow down...
  9. When they announce McNeil, everyone in Citi should slam their hat and yell FUCK at the top of their lungs. A finer tribute you'll never see.
  10. That's La Catrina. She's a prominent symbol for Dia de los Muertos. The candles seem to represent an ofrenda, which is a little shrine for departed loved ones. We have one in our house.
  11. I met someone from Wisconsin today and asked her if people there say "Wisco" and she answered with a resounding, enthusiastic yes. She loved the new Brewers shirts. That one's probably my favorite of this batch, but I do think stuff like Wisco and BMORE and PGH are dumb. I think it should be said that the Rangers pandering to Hispanic fans with "TEJAS" should fuck right off after they pulled a statue of a racist Texas Ranger out of storage and propped it up in their stadium. They're the absolute worst org.
  12. I like the details on the Rangers sleeves and inside the "T" on the hat, but it really looks like a college top. The purple-blue gradient on the Royals shirt keeps grabbing the eyes. That's a solid entry, I think.
  13. These bore me to death, but they're still better than the all-black look they just retired.
  14. I hadn't heard that one either. I love the font on Wisco anwyay.
  15. The 2026 batch of City Connect jerseys officially dropped today. Some are old jerseys reimagined. Some are just reboots of previous City Connect jerseys. And some (the Brewers and the Orioles, in particular) really leaned into it and created a new look with different color palettes. What do you think? https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-city-connect-2-0-jerseys-revealed And dig this wild-ass number font. The five looks like a backwards, upside-down two.
  16. Was Matt Williams their manager? If so, I'll guess him. PS - these both sound like lies to me: Tory Lovullo has been the Arizona manager since 2017 James McCann is still an active baseball player
  17. Absolutely. I remember when Theo Wolcott got Thierry Henry's #14. The honor, no doubt, comes with the weight of expectation, but it's still cooler than Henry's #14 collecting dust on a wall.
  18. I do. Just keep putting the numbers up on the wall like they do now, but leave them in circulation and don't call it a number retirement. Call it something else -- the Kings of Queens, the Diamond Club (that's probably already some bar in Citi), the Ring of Honor, something. Retiring numbers is such an unnecessary, largely American tradition with no set standard, so clubs do it just because other clubs are doing it. Retire all the Joneses to keep up with the Joneses. Plus, we're depriving ourselves of some cool shit. What if we ended up with a bunch of great left-handed starters who all wore #36? What if they had issued Doc #41? What if Olerud wore #17 cause he loved Keith? Number lineages are waaaaayyyy cooler than retired numbers. Leave 42 retired (I'm good with that) and put 'em all back in the rotation.
  19. Per SNY, Tyrone Taylor has been evicted from the #15 and will move to #28.
  20. Devin Williams chucking it (effectively) at like 93 MPH had me feeling like he's a bit more Kenley Jansen than Edwin Diaz. Not necessarily a bad thing, just a little scary when 95 is clearly a distant memory for a 31-year-old closer.
  21. Seeing him slam his bat and yell fuck after popping up to second got very grating for me.
  22. Vientos is at first, batting fifth sixth. Benge sits again versus a lefty and Tyrone Taylor gets the start and bats ninth. Semien, who as you will recall, sucks, is hitting seventh. God speed to Francisco Alvarez who is sandwiched between those two.
  23. If the Mets think Semien can still be worth more than a couple wins with the glove, then his leash will be longer. I just feel like Semien's bat has been way worse than anyone thought it might be so far, and given his age and flat spring training performance, my optimism is disappearing quickly. Looking at Semien's StatCast and comparing it to Cano's aborted 2022 season, the things saving Semien (predictably) are his glove, his speed and his eye. But when he's making contact, it's bad. Real bad. I just hope he gets right ASAP and Baty gets going just in case.
  24. I think the Mets saved $25MM in the Nimmo for Semien deal Yep. Even with the savings ($25MM between Nimmo and Semien), they won't be able to justify the man's golden glove if he keeps putting up an OPS+ of 14. Under Cohen, the Mets gave Robinson Cano 43 plate appearances before they cut bait. Just sayin...
