The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I believe they will ply better moving forward, but I can't see this digging out of the hole they have put themselves in. They have far too many outs in their line up and they essentially have a 3 man rotation in which Clay Holmes is their ace. I'm happy to see Holmes pitching so well, but I expect him to regress somewhat over the season. McLean and Peralta are capable of being an ace, but the offense really needs to step up and give them some runs to work with. I am glad to see Vientos and Benge showing some life at the plate of late, but it will take more than a good week from them for this team to be good. I expect them to be better, but not enough to save the offense. So ultimately, If Peterson can remember how to pitch effectively for 5-6 innings on a regular basis, if Soto and Bichette can put up their usual numbers the rest of the way, if Lindor recovers and comes back raking, if Vientos & Benge can continue their recent resurgence, if Baty & Alvarez can hit at least .240 the rest of the way, then the Mets could possibly make a run at the last wild card spot.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 5 Posted May 5 And, just two years ago they came out of a deeper hole with less time remaining in the season. (See graphics above.) I don't expect it to happen, but it can, and did, quite recently.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I have no reason to be over optimistic / But sometimes when they win I can brave bad weather
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Like MM I am always optimistic. I've certainly been despondent at times this spring but it helps that they've been bad on West Coast time for much of it, and I've been able to just go to bed and dream about better Mets performances.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6 Posted May 6 They don't have the horses so no, for now. However I can be swayed
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6 Posted May 6 There seems to be a lot of disagreement as to whether there is actual talent on the team.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6 Posted May 6 "Am I right in thinking there's no talent on this team?" "Um... no." "Then there is someone talent on this team?" "Sorry, I said 'no' meaning 'yes'." "'No' meaning 'yes'? Look, I want a straight answer, is there talent, or isn't there, yes, or no?" "No." "No there is, or no there isn't?" "Yes."
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Not optimistic. Not as bad as they looked during the streak, but not good. Just don't see them playing the sustained stretch of good ball that would get them back in the playoff conversation. The Hot Corner 1

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 14 Posted May 14 If the Mets can manage to win 55 percent of their remaining games, they will finish with it 83 wins, which might be enough to put them on the cusp of the postseason.
