bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Not who you think will win but who do you WANT to win? You gotta pick, you can't say "F 'em both". Padres: CON: They beat our guys. They acted holier than thou at the ear inspection when one of their stars was banned for being a juicer.PRO: We really don't give a crap about them for most of the season.Phillies: CON: We hate them. They hate us more.PRO: They beat Atlanta, so thank you. The Mets are much, much better than they are.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Padres, phuck Philadelphia. I hope San Diego wins the World Series.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I've been rooting for the Padres ever since they eliminated the Mets. Mainly because I think that they have the best uniforms of the remaining teams and also, because a series victory over the Dodgers, which the Padres completed last night, is consistent with everything I believe about playoff baseball.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Phillies, I have relatives there
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Padres. Pads have never won a World Series, so they'll be sentimental favorites.Phillies, oy, I have too many Philly friends willing to bust my chops. Go Friars!

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Definitely hope the Padres continue that playoff magic.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 Fuck everything in Philly that isn't a cheesesteak or my cousin Ellie and her family
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 I picked Phillies ONLY because Padres beat our Mets and their unis look like a dirty diaper
duan Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I'm hoping for a Padres - Guardians world series at this point. Was hoping Mariners would get through but that ship has sailed (boom boom)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I picked the Padres because I don't want to be surrounded by Phillies mania.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I picked the Padres because Pete Rose was never a San Diego Padre.Later
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Padres. I'd rather lose to the NL champs than an also-ran.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I however, will not be. Give me the Pods.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Keith desperately sucking up to Phillies fans is unseemly. They're still going to boo you, pretty boy.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Sandy Eggo. This way we can say we lost to the champs, which may make our early exit easier to swallow. The padres definitely had that "could be dangerous come October" feel.....also, fuck Philly.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I've been rooting for the Pods ever since they eliminated the Mets but every year, I root real hard for a series like Phillies v. Padres. I love this. It's as normal as a Dodgers/Mets NLCS or a Mets/Braves NLCS. It confirms everything I believe about playoff baseball and baseball in general and is sort or my revenge for all of those playoff articles I come across every year that annoy the living shit out of me that make much ado about a team with a better record losing in three of four games to its opponent. This is all literally --literally-- a coin flip as far as I'm concerned and I think that every qualifier has about the same chance of taking the title.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Watching via tape delay and have almost caught up to real time (about 15 minutes behind at this point).Currently 2 - 0 Phils on solo HRs by Harper (barely) and Schwarber (seriously) heading to bottom six.Darvish v Wheeler (a very efficient one hitter).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 In real time now. Still 2 - 0, bottom 8Padres have lifted Darvish and are into thei pen (Nick Martinez)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 And the Phils go to the pen for the 8th despite Wheeler's dominance [1 H, 1 BB thru 7]Seranthony Dominguez on to face the bottom of the order.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Jose Alvarado (Philly's hot-headed lefty) on to protect a 2 run lead in bottom 9th
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 hey at least now the padres know what it's like to be one-hit in the playoffs. i'm still rooting for them though, despite 2/5 of the mets great future rotation being on the phillies roster.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 At least they figured out a way to get a post-season game completed in under 3 hours: have the teams combine for 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 BBs (and 20 Ks)with no mid-inning pitching changes -- 2:43

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 My recent "scrapbooking" reminded me that in 2015 Wheeler was almost traded, along with Wilmer Flores, to the Brewers for Carlos Gomez, a deal that would have precluded the deal for Yoenis Cespedes.
