-Some of the various promos/special events the Mets are running require a special ticket to get a particular item/access a pregame reception/etc. if you want the “Backyard Baseball” hat tonight, you have to buy a special ticket.l that guarantees you that item. -As compared to many other “ordinary” promo games (giveaways of T-shirts, pennants, bobbleheads, etc.) for which there is no guarantee - it’s just offered to the first ~15,000 ticketholders to show up.

Subpar strategic decision making and subpar preparation (as evidenced by too many mental errors and lapses in fundamentals) are the two key reasons that stick out, and both are clear to the outside observer. The third reason (and I believe Centerfield has discussed this before) is the failure to maximize talent. This is of course much harder for an outsider to evaluate — but when so many players are underperforming for so long, it suggests a larger problem. Is Mendoza a poor motivator? A poor evaluator of talent himself? A bad communicator with the players? Very hard for me or anyone else on the outside to know, but something is obviously not working correctly.

Is there a hitting or bench or pitching coach that is doing a good job? I couldn’t identify one. I would fire Mendoza and try an interim external candidate because Mendoza is bad and the team can’t fall to sixth place. I can’t think of a justification for an internal candidate at the MLB level being worthy. Maybe the Syracuse manager?

First time at the park in a few weeks and man that was demoralizing. Bad approaches at the plate. Very sloppy defense. Total crap from Peralta. Team looks completely unprepared to play, let alone win. Just unacceptable all around.

Ok, reading these clues carefully now, it doesn’t say “current” stadium so the West Sacramento guess was clearly misplaced. St. Louis and Philadelphia used to host both teams in their parks but too many WS wins for both. Anything else that hosted two MLB teams is pretty obviously not this image (e.g, it’s not Shea). We know from the top at least one of those teams that played there was in MLB. But going by the careful wording, the second team might not be MLB - could be Negro Leagues, minor leagues, Federal League, etc. But if we need 3 World Series wins, it’s not some old park in DC or Cleveland or Boston (NL) and it’s certainly not Tiger Stadium or the Polo Grounds. The curvy roads don’t make sense for whatever came before Wrigley. So this has got to be Cincinnati or Pittsburgh? So, umm, Crosley Field or Forbes Field…and I guess the image has black and yellow so we’ll say the latter.

That has to be West Sacramento, or some other minor league park.

I agree with all of this except that I’m not sure mid-season is the optimal time to find a new manager. Mendoza should be fired because he does a bad job as manager, full stop. But if they’re not going to do so now, the one possible benefit to waiting is a broader candidate pool after the season ends.

This was the 12th extra inning game for the Mets this year (7-5). The Mets had 4 wins in extras in which the stupid free runner was inconsequential (for example, the May 29 game in which Melendez hit a homer in the bottom of the 10th in a tie game to win). 3 wins were aided by the free runner (ex. April 7 against Arizona; a single wins the game versus just having the winning run on first). By contrast, 4 (maybe all 5) losses were aided by the stupid free runner: -March 29 vs PIT: in the top of the 10th, Pirates get a Single, GIDP, Walk, Walk, Single, Strikeout. In a normal world that’s at most 1 run, but Manfred gifts them a second. -April 1 at STL: bottom of 10th, tie game: walk, GIDP, single. In a normal world that’s a runner on first with 2 outs and probably goes to the 11th. -April 19 at CHC: Wild pitch, K, sac fly. Mets lose without giving up a baserunner in extras. -May 2 at LAA: walk, single, 2 flyouts, single. Maybe that scores the winning run in any circumstance…maybe not. -Tonight in SEA, only hit was a single.
