  1. Peterson is a free agent at the end of the year and has actually had some success in the bullpen. There’s plenty of reasons to keep him around and yes, he probably can be moved in a trade also. Manaea needs a thorough evaluation to see if he’s actually healthy. He never got those loose bodies in his elbow fixed, right? One would think a long IL stint and slow ramp-up is the path with him.
  2. Maybe JD Martinez? this change has to happen immediately.
  3. I’m on board with criticism of Stearns for making ill-advised moves but this one doesn’t make sense. -The Mets aren’t paying Nimmo to play for another team; the whole point of that deal was to lower overall financial exposure. Maybe (and it sure looks that way) it was a bad trade because the Mets weren’t getting enough on-field value in return but for cash purposes it was a reduction of money. -Minter is fantastic when on the field. Wasn’t it part of the Mets’ financial advantage to sign him to that deal knowing that they aren’t hamstrung spending the money if it doesn’t work out? Should Stearns have spent even more money for a different reliever? -Polanco was a (likely?) a bad move because he doesn’t really have a position. The alternative was…what, exactly? Spend more on whom? The point is that the issue isn’t the money, it’s the choice of players. And maybe also the manager.
  4. 1,301. Carl Edwards Jr. 1,302. Austin Slater
  5. Still searching for rock bottom. Have to fire Mendoza soon so it doesn’t happen when the team is in Anaheim.
  6. Or hurt. I’m certainly convinced that Manaea’s not been healthy for a long time.
  7. Mark Vientos challenging a strike call with no one on, one out, and an 8-run lead in the 5th inning…and the pitch nowhere close to a ball…to burn the last challenge…is something. He needs to lose his challenge privileges for a week or something for that.
  8. Choosing (and retaining) Mendoza is also a Stearns choice. As I’ve said earlier, I think Stearns’ seat is also warm but firing him in-season isn’t going to make a difference with this team. Changing the manager might - and it’s not as if the team can fall to 6th place.
  9. “Lumbar spine inflammation” = Billy Eppler conveniently finding a player with back spasms, but now with a fancy name. All seriousness, it wouldn’t be a shock if there was an unresolved injury issue with both Senga and Manaea.
  10. It was Lindor until he got hurt. Soto should do it in his absence. Semien is the team’s union rep for what that’s worth.
  11. It’s time. It may not do anything but if he’s not likely to return in 2027 (and he isn’t) there’s no sense keeping him if there’s any chance a change can turn things around.
  12. You have to put Bichette, Soto, and Lindor in a separate bucket. Those 3 guys would have been in the opening day starting lineup for all 30 teams. That they’re bad, hurt, or both is not Stearns’s fault. That’s bad luck, not bad roster construction. The roster after those 3 guys was always the problem because it was counting on too much from the unproven/inconsistent (Baty, Alvarez, Vientos, Benge) or hoping for bouncebacks (Robert, Semien).
  13. Cora was the manager of the 2018 championship team. Since that time, the Red Sox have not won a division title and have only 2 playoff appearances. The first was 2021, where a second-place team got a wild card and lost in the ALCS. Since then, the Red Sox had 78, 78, and 81 wins in 2022-2024. Last year 89 wins (third place) and got bounced in the Wild Card round. Started the year 10-17.
  14. Do we think that was actually a mistake? Gary’s call seemed to suggest that it was just bad luck (not a lot of effective replays to judge for myself).
