Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I'm assuming Prior is on a strict pitch count.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Maine has earned a spot on this rotation for sure.Although, I said the same of Soler in mid-June.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Maine strikes out the side in the 7th! 17 scoreless innings in a row! He's due up fifth in the upcoming inning. Let's see what happens.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 He's at 118 pitches. It's John Wayne time.

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I'd really like to see some runs here. Maine deserves to go home with a win today.

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I know. My point was less that Maine is a superstar than that everyone else seems to be in decline.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 David Wright starts the 7th with a slow hopper that sould have been an infield hit, but a nice play robs him. Then Valentin hits a little blooper that nobody seemed to want to catch. Base hit!

In fact, I kind of like that it's never happened. On the one hand I think it's crazy that you'd be content that are team has not reached certain benchmarks of personal achievement. On the other hand it would be cool if a Met became the first to do something no one else has done like a 5 homer game or a 27 K performance or the most consecutive shutouts.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Thank goodness for Porn Stashe - we don't have to suffer the indignity of being no-hit at home.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Pop singles are great ways to break up no hitters, and nice radio diversions on an afternoon drive.

Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Castro flies out to end the rally. No decision for Maine today. It's in the pen's hands.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Dammit, Shea! That's why we need a new Shea. Old Shea selfishly holding homers like that.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Years ago I really wanted that no no-hitter thing to be erased. But when we made it through the second great era of Mets pitchers (after Gooden, Darling, Cone, Fernandez) were all gone, the lack of a no-hitter began to seem more like an interesting quirk than a serious deficiency. The Mets have now defied the odds for almost 45 full seasons. And now, any no-hitter short of a perfect game will seem anti-climactic.Do I really care if Steve Trachsel pitches a no-hitter? Not really.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Lots of pop-outs today - and lots of warning track fly outs all series.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 i just got back from lunch at Tonic, the Met Lounge, and i saw no hits or runs scored. Freakin' Prior. He waited till i dropped him off one of my fantasy teams to actually throw a solid game.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 17 and 2/3 according to the radio.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Got a feeling we may be here a while! Grab a Snickers...
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 That fly by Castro got my pulse racing for a second or two.Oh well.Sanchez in.

Not really. You know, I think the lack of No-hitter for the Mets is more a by product of having the fellow who wound up with more No-Nos than anyone being a Met at the start of his long career.Do Padre fans moan about their franchise never having a no-no?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 So you're saying that if Nolan Ryan had never been a Met, they'd have a no-hitter by now?
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Duaner Sanchez pitches a 1-2-3 8th.Let's make him the pitcher of record on the long side, shall we?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Sanchez gets the Cubs out in the 8th.Again, a plea to the Mets to finally score a run! We'll have a pinch hitter (unless there was a double switch that I missed), then the top of the order.Beltran (Vanis Takee!) due up fourth.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I think he's saying it becomes notable that the Mets have never had a no-hitter because they traded a guy who eventually had 7, whereas otherwise we might not notice it as much. I think that have great pitchers like Seaver and Gooden pitch superbly for the Mets and the fact that pitchers like Seaver and Gooden only got no-hitters for other teams adds to the mystery and aura.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I think of SeoI sing of DuanerThe winner in the dealThe Mets, no-brainer
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Beltran 3 run HR coming up. You heard it here first.
