So as you know the CBA includes uni-advertisements for the first time. League says they are still going over details, and got from a well-placed source that the Mets haven't ordered any new patches--yet.

With the understanding that we all hate this for many reasons--primarily around the idea of aligning a brand over another brand for which we all have resilient affection--who would you hold and nose and like most as a sponsor? Could be any company or product except alcohol and sportsbooks, which I'm pretty sure are to be excluded.

Maybe somebody could make a large donation to put the Ukrainian flag on the unis?

It's so so rare to have a sponsor on a uniform that doesn't make you want to retch. I'd love to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art pony up to be the sponsor. If you could talk them into an alternate color scheme, this would be more than ok, I think. Even if it had to be red, I'm sure folks could live with something like this on breast patch:

Aside from that, Citi comes to mind. JetBlue maybe? Or some other airline? But no one really wants to see those.

My long shot: KraneShares. They're a NY-based investment company whose CEO leads the ownership group of USL soccer team Queensboro FC. They've previously paid to have "KraneShares" on soccer kits before, but not sure if they have the buxxx to make the jump from second-tier soccer to MLB.

Starting with things that would suck (or suck more than most):

  • Big Pharma

  • Big Oil

  • Oligarch-owned Middle East air carriers

  • Cable or TV programming providers.

I'm assuming they will stay miles away from any brand associated with President Trump, but considering Governor Christie is on the board, that assumption isn't as safe as all that.

Big sneaker would kind of suck, too, but it's too good a match to avoid, so it'd probably be something I'd have to get used to, and not all athletic apparel brands are equally evil. I'd kind of be surprised if Under Armor doesn't sign a 10-year deal with the O's.

For the Mets, I'm predicting a wacky insurance advertiser — likely GEICO or Progressive — but what I want is perhaps something already orange and/or blue, or based in the outer boroughs.

  • Penguin Books (Penguin Random House)

  • Doubleday Books (Knopf Doubleday)

  • Steinway & Sons

  • Swingline Staplers

  • White Rock Beverages

  • Atavist

  • Etsy

  • Beyond Good.

I think with Nike the maker's mark on all jerseys, big sneaker is probably unlikely as a sponsor. I hope it's not Big Pharma, but healthcare companies litter the American soccer jersey sponsor landscape.

Also with Cohen on board, I guess we shouldn't be surprised if some big-swinging investor outfit like Deloitte or Bear Stearns is the sponsor.

If you want local businesses, then look no further than Kandahar Muffler Auto Shop, Volcano Auto Parts, and V.I.P Tire Shop, all ready to serve you in the adjacent Iron Triangle!

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it's teams fielding offers for the highest bid for a patch ad (like the NBA).

Yes teams make their own deals and are expected to deliver between $3 million and $10 million a year even though experts target their "worth" in impressions higher than that. I wrote about this topic for work this week, paywalled I think...

So wait, the Iron Triangle isn't a metaphor for a female sex robot and her naughty metal bits ?

Northwell Health is the largest employer on Long Island. Northrop Grumman would be a link to Long Island's vital role in the aerospace industry.

We're gonna get Carvel. Fudgie the Whale patch, or one shaped like Cookie Puss. Cookie O'Puss for the St. Patrick's Day game. I guess all are better than some gambling site or casino.

But that's for the network, not the team.

Bally's (a division of somebody, I can't remember now) bought out the regional FOX sports network contracts two seasons back

and so now have the local broadcasting rights to around half of all MLB teams.

Either GE, Siemens or Phillips, the three primary manufacturers of MRI equipment, would be logical sponsors for the Mets.

Think of all the player testimonials they could use in their commercials.
