I thought it might be "Spiders". "Guardians" sounds like an insurance company but it's strong, the logo is good, and if Tom Hanks likes it so who are we to object?

Guardian sounds like Copganda nonsense, the font is basically the same and it feels blocky and like it's still invoking native american stuff, but maybe that last bit is just my association with the old name. I like the concept of wings on the ball but it's clunky and i'm not sure how it makes sense with the name or with Cleveland

my only quibble is that i don't like the angularization of the script. it looks fairly terrible. not as bad as the winged G, but still bad.



hopefully there wil be more revisions...? because, damn, it kinda looks like they just grabbed these off of an old unaffiliated N-64 baseball game.

Huh? I mean, it's not my first choice, and having to explain to out-of-towners the whole idea of the Guardians of Transportation on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge is going to get old fast, but what's so awful about it?



I would have gone with Spiders. I don't think anyone really needed to worry about people associating it with the losing culture they had back in the 1890s.

Apparently the name comes from some statues on a bridge. There's precedent for naming a team after a statue.

Progressive Field is located at the foot of the bridge with the Guardians. So there's definitely a connection.

I've been to Cleveland and I still never heard of those statues. I mean, if they wanted to associate with something Cleveland-related that people have heard of they should have gone with the Cleveland Rocks.



Or even the River Fires.

I think I'll have to chew on this one before I have anything meaningful to offer.



If you cover the "Guar" with your left thumb, it looks exactly like an Indians chestplate logo (minus the smiling shmoe), and I guess maintaining that sort of continuity was a big part of what was asked of the rebranders, but it kind of makes it feel like a halfhearted half-measure to me, like my wife keeping pictures of her ex around.



I think we as a nation are leaning on the authority of Tom Hanks wuh-HAY too much. Hanks is from the San Francisco Bay area, but you know who's from Cleveland? Jim Fuckin' Lovell, the astronaut he played, is.



Not identifiable enough? How about Emmy-winner Drew Carey? How about Oscar-winner Halle Berry? How about Grammy-winner Tracy Chapman?



Nobody hates Tracy Chapman. But the program needs a white male-io because they need to reassure the blanco base that, hey, just because we acknowledged the dignity of a minority group doesn't mean we're hating on you guys. What voice says, "It's gonna be alright, Dad" better than Tom Hanks?
