Guest 41Forever Guests Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Marcus Stroman and Pete Alonso both on Twitter advocating for a return of the black jerseys. Please tell me they've been hacked and don't really think this.[TWEET]How many retweets to make it happen?— Pete Alonso (@Pete_Alonso20) https://twitter.com/Pete_Alonso20/status/1198691997370011654?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%22%3ENovemberNovember">https://twitter.com/Pete_Alonso20/status/1198691997370011654?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 24, 2019 [/TWEET]
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 “Every so often,” a la the Brewers wearing their 1982 duds on Friday nights at home, would be fine. Alterna-creep always lurks as a danger, though. I don't believe the blacks tops and hybrid hats of 1998 were envisioned as pervasive, yet soon they were.Props to Stroman and Alonso for caring one way or the other. It's as if being Mets matters to them.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 If it would help Pete repeat his 2019 season and Marcus win 20 games, and they lead the Mets to a Championship, I'd let them wear a purple uniform (as long as they bend the brim of their cap).(ducking)Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 It's the look they grew up with and I can't fault them for that.Royal blue on black is just an ill look, though. It always will be.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Then again, I never particularly liked any of the looks I grew up with. The Torre-era button-down pullovers? The Bambi-era solid-blue v-neck tops? The Johnson-era piping? Come on. All felt like unauthorized re-mixes of a track they nailed the first time. The main improvement they've made to the original togs was the number on the front. Most other changes have been amateurish hack jobs.

Perhaps it was banished to the deep recesses of your memory. But those two years in the 1990s with the tail under Mets was rock bottom.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Yeah, but I wuz fully grown up when the dawn of the Torborg Tail came upon us.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 27) Torborg tail homeThe thought of seeing "Torborg" and "Mets" in the same sentence still makes me throw up a little in my mouth.Later
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I liked the black jerseys. They won a pennant wearing those.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Yeah, I'm okay with bringing back the black. In moderation, but sure.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Pinstripes and royal blues. Ditch the rest.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 especially the white. get out of here with the white jerseys.

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 This young-fan-driven revisionism is flummoxing. Unless you're talking denim and a t-shirt, black and royal clash-- and have always clashed-- like Joe Strummer and his in-laws.Whatever, man. If someone claims the dropshadows are due for a comeback, though, my blood vessels will strain to keep their contents contained.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 i love the black jerseys. they're very turn of the century.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 My main problem with the black jerseys are the black hats.Still, if they ended up doing it a handful of times a year, I won't get bent out of shape about it.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I think the black jerseys and hats look like shit, but I love that the players are hyped on piece of this (or any) segment of Mets history. I'm just remembering that someone gave me the black road jersey back then and I gave it away to charity.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Even as a Stones album, black and blue don't really mix.
