Just say no ... to the black jerseys!

Marcus Stroman and Pete Alonso both on Twitter advocating for a return of the black jerseys. Please tell me they've been hacked and don't really think this.

“Every so often,” a la the Brewers wearing their 1982 duds on Friday nights at home, would be fine. Alterna-creep always lurks as a danger, though. I don't believe the blacks tops and hybrid hats of 1998 were envisioned as pervasive, yet soon they were.

Props to Stroman and Alonso for caring one way or the other. It's as if being Mets matters to them.

If it would help Pete repeat his 2019 season and Marcus win 20 games, and they lead the Mets to a Championship, I'd let them wear a purple uniform (as long as they bend the brim of their cap).

(ducking)

It's the look they grew up with and I can't fault them for that.

Royal blue on black is just an ill look, though. It always will be.

Then again, I never particularly liked any of the looks I grew up with. The Torre-era button-down pullovers? The Bambi-era solid-blue v-neck tops? The Johnson-era piping? Come on. All felt like unauthorized re-mixes of a track they nailed the first time. The main improvement they've made to the original togs was the number on the front. Most other changes have been amateurish hack jobs.

You are forgetting the worst atrocity. Perhaps it was banished to the deep recesses of your memory. But those two years in the 1990s with the tail under Mets was rock bottom.

In order of preference:

1) Classic home pinstripes

2) Classic road jerseys

(These two are uniform perfection, should never be messed with and should be discussed only in hushed, reverent tones.)

3) The current home blue alts, though they were better with the Mr. Met patch.

4) Mid-80s home pinstripes with racing stripes.

5) The button-up home pinstripes with racing stripes

6) The "cream" home pinstripes

7) The two-button home pinstripes

8) The snow white homes.

9) The road button-up with racing stripes and block city name

10) The 1987 road with script city name

11) The 1990s road grays with script city name and blue trim.

12) The 1990s road grays with script city name but no blue trim.

13) Los Mets

14) Camo

15) Mid-80s road grays with team name and racing stripes

16) Blue road alts.

17) Late 70s road grays with team name.

18) 2018 blue and orange Player's Weekend.

19) Road grays with black shadows.

20) Mercury Mets

21) New York Cubans

22) The all-blue with giant NY

23) The stupid all-white Player's Weekend

24) Black home

25) Black road

26) Pinstripes with black shadows

27) Torborg tail home

The thought of seeing "Torborg" and "Mets" in the same sentence still makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

This young-fan-driven revisionism is flummoxing. Unless you're talking denim and a t-shirt, black and royal clash-- and have always clashed-- like Joe Strummer and his in-laws.

Whatever, man. If someone claims the dropshadows are due for a comeback, though, my blood vessels will strain to keep their contents contained.

My main problem with the black jerseys are the black hats.

Still, if they ended up doing it a handful of times a year, I won't get bent out of shape about it.

I think the black jerseys and hats look like shit, but I love that the players are hyped on piece of this (or any) segment of Mets history.

I'm just remembering that someone gave me the black road jersey back then and I gave it away to charity.

Pinstripes and royal blues. Ditch the rest.

Exactly.

I'm fine with selling whatever permutations you want at the team store. Just not on the field please.

I thought you had been a lonely defender of blue on black in a past thread.
