Eight different offers and if the Mets are maybe a ninth seems a little

dramatic.
If he's our 5th starter, whatever. Can't see throwing any big

money at him and doubt eight other teams would too but who knows.

In the Yamamoto/Lucchesi role we could do a lot worse.

For Matz I'm sure it'll come down something like that vs. an every-five-days struggle for a dreadful club like the Orioles.

Someone will absolutely give him a "guaranteed" rotation spot. He's proven to be worth it.

And before we get too ahead of ourselves, our rotation currently consists of Taijuan Walker, who couldn't get anyone out once they took away sticky stuff; Tylor Megill, who turned back in to a pumpkin in August; Carlos Carrasco, who pitched to a 6.04 ERA; and deGrom and Peterson, both of whom are coming off injuries. So yeah, I'd pencil Matz in at no worse than #3 right now and see what happens.

He'll probably get more money than you ever thought he would get a month ago because that's what always happens. Pretty much every year, baseball salaries increase - shockingly so.

Because otherwise he might not be able to finalize a deal until like...May?

the whole "pending physical" thing, and holiday in the middle. If he waits to agree to something and then still needs a physical, he only has until midnight next Wednesday.

I'm kinda surprised by the mild reaction here from JCL.

Had a nice little year in Toronto, but I don't want him back, especially if it's an overpay. I simply don't trust him to keep it together if something goes wrong behind him.

After winning 14 games he won't be looking for 5th starter money and he won't be giving the Mets any hometown discount. Pass.

I'd take Matz back in a heartbeat. We'd still need to sign a couple more starters. But he showed that we all thought he was capable and would likely be playing with much better defense behind him, assuming they sign Baez. This would be a low-risk, high-reward signing.

Don;t get me wrong. I find Matz deeply untrustworthy, but I can say the same of Yamamoto and Lucceshi as well

He won't be low-cost, though. Focus on bringing Stroman back. He's a lot more crucial than Matz.

I would definitely prefer bringing Stroman back over a return of Matz.

If they throw Matz a big chunk before Stro' the Stroman people are gonna laugh

and say thanks for raising the bar on our guy. Cha-ching!!

I hardly think it's a case of either/or.

It looks like he won't be making any new memories in Orange & Blue

Apparently going to the Cards - 4 years & 44 million.

Next opportunity for Matz memories: 4/25-4/27 at STL, 5/15-5/19 when the Redbirds visit.

At least we still have England Dan and Sean Reid-Foley from the first time we didn't have Steven.

He was solid for Toronto in a difficult division, so the AAV is surprisingly low. Then again, he only pitched 150 IP.

Just out of curiosity, are we going to talk to the Jays' pitching coach about managing the team?

Fresh galaxy-brain anxiety, from when a couple of close ex-teammates who are both country boys at heart chat:

“Yeah, Jake, it's really nice and supportive here, and we're always in contention. With Waino retiring, you should totally opt out and join me here.”
