Not having an Athletic subscription, and lacking the will to sort through tweets and figure out who is credible and who isn't, how do the Callaway infractions compare to those of Porter?

I don't know, but I'm gleaning no dic pics and no 60-text blowups. Inappropriate and unprofessional and kind of pathetic but not skewing so much toward borderline criminal harassment as the other guy. Is that right?

I'd maybe rate his shitty behavior a rung below Porter's on "the Shitty Behavior Ladder". Seems they both had terrible boundaries when it came to flooding poor reporters with unwanted text messages. But Mickey seemed to send less after not getting a response and he would send shirtless selfies instead of junk mail. Maybe the Mets did want Kim Ng and she was like, "hell no".

Shitty sexual misdeed behavior is shitty sexual misdeed behavior. I see little difference between Mickey and Porter.

Sandy had no idea, really?

You can't say one is less explicit than the other IMHO.

I saw all I needed from Mickey when I saw him hunting sharks with Matt Harvey and Don Jr. Not that I thought he was a harassing creep at the time, but on a personal level he and I probably have very little in common.

Politics aside, that moment sort of spoke to me of the sort of neediness that would never allow him to be a consistently effective leader.

I went behind the paywall, and it's ugly stuff. Offering behind-the-scenes scoops (which reporters kill for) in exchange for getting drunk with him. It was a pattern and also not exactly a secret. Women warned other women about him. Have to think his future ex-wife knew, but I feel bad for the kids.

Whether she knew the generalities or the specifics, the rest of the world finding out that your spouse is an asshole on the make is pretty devastating.

I think so too. Porter's and Callaway's stories are different. As I mentioned on the first page of this thread, Porter's was worse because of the dick pic and Callaway's was worse because he's married. (Porter, I believe, was divorced at the time he was stalking the female reporter.)

Both are very bad, though. Porter got fired. I expect Mickey will too.

I don't think it should matter to the Angels whether or not Callaway is married. Nobody's business if he doesn't wanna be faithful to his wife. Sexual harrasment is another thing. But if all this was was Callaway having a consensual extramarital affair, it shouldn't rise to the level of a national scandal.

His affair shouldn't matter necessarily, but his pattern of behavior against women, including those who cover the Angels while he's been employed by the Angels should bother the Angels.

If nothing else, this story pretty much assures that the streak of former NYM managers not getting another managing job after leaving the Mets will continue.

Post-Davey, only Jeff Torborg (briefly) and Bobby V (also briefly, at least on this side of the Pacific) ever managed an MLB club again.

That doesn't imply very good choosing of candidates, and that the GM list has about the same track record echoes that point.

“I think you know why we called you in”

Yes sir.

“You claimed you had no managerial experience whatsoever. That you'd have to learn on the job...”

That is what I said.

“In fact that's not true is it? You managed the NY Mets. I found this clip of you from 2009.”

(Looks down sheepishly)

“I'm sorry Jerry. I have no choice but to let you go...”

“Mickey Callaway is fungible,” Kay said. “Jared Porter fungible. But what happens when the first big superstar is uncovered to be that guy? Is he fungible? Are they going to force him out of the sport, or is it going to be a simple slap-on-the-wrist suspension? I wonder, because that's going to happen.

That's something I've been wondering too. What happens when it's a superstar player with eight years and $250 million left on his contract?

We've been down this road many times, no? It may not be sexting professional contacts but often something worse and more dangerous. And usually, the result is a suspension.

That's kind of why I don't mind the Angels initially (and perhaps ultimately) slapping Callaway with a suspension. It's not like Mike Trout or Andrelton Simmons would've gotten released and their contract voided.

Art Howe was a Washington bench coach 2007-2008.
