Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 NY Post is reporting not a 'strained' calf but a 'torn' one.Of course saying a muscle is "strained" is pretty much the same thing as saying it's a somewhat minor tear so part of that is just semantics. But they're also mentioning "several weeks" at a minimum and then he'd need time to ramp back up after that. And with a season that's less than ten weeks long to start with ...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 And he's a free agent this off-season.Trades are for the birds. In this case, for the Blue Jay birds.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Suspected he was headed fr a disappointment with all the struttin he did early this year. A shame
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 From what I read online, 3 weeks for a mild one. 4-6 for moderate. Severe is 3-4 months. Let's hope his Mets career isn't over.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Hasn't Stroman been largely ineffective for a couple years now? Next!

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 This sucks some ass. Who is our fifth starter now? Christ
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I don't think it's Christ. Maybe it's Chasen Shreve, which is almost the same thing.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Corey Oswalt is likely the fifth starter.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 any interest in an andrew cashner? sheesh, there are not a lot of good free agent pitchers still kicking around.wait. no. bartolo. that's who we need.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Marcus Stroman has opted out for the season. He's a FA after 2020.https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/1292900180728131589https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/1292900180728131589
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I've seen speculation that a lot of players may be delaying their opt-out until they hit service-time milestones.Oh well. I had hoped he'd be coming back soon. I guess he was just playing at his rehab.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Feel like Brodie needs to make a play to resign him. If he's still got a job in October
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Steve Cohen woulda re-signed Zack Wheeler.No. Wait.Steve Cohen woulda signed Gerritt Cole.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 At least he didn't pull a Cespedes.Good luck wherever he goes but hope he stays here
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 To me Strohmann is bread anyway

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I was looking forward to seeing him pitch for the Mets but I don't blame him. He's coming off an injury and he doesn't need to get hurt again going into free agency.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Class:(paywall)https://theathletic.com/1987430/2020/08/10/too-many-uncertainties-marcus-stromans-opt-out-and-how-it-affects-the-mets/https://theathletic.com/1987430/2020/08/10/too-many-uncertainties-marcus-stromans-opt-out-and-how-it-affects-the-mets/“It was a blessing to me, a breath of fresh air when I came over to this organization. And I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart,” Stroman said Monday. “However this may play out in the future, obviously I would love to be a part of what they have going on. There's a lot that goes into that, but I can't say enough good things about this organization and my time here and everybody that's been involved.”
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Looking to be the anti-Cespedes. And looking to have one more suitor in free agency. He didn't impress me enough in the short time he pitched for the Mets to throw big dollars at him.But realistically, this finishes the Mets. They have no fifth starter. Also no second and third starter. Peterson's an acceptable #4 at this point.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 They only have to be a .500 team (more or less) to make the playoffs, so while this is definitely a setback it's hard to say that they're necessarily "finished".
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 And a .500 Mets team is still a serious contender in a 5 game series where deGrom can start 2 games
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 The Mets are a serious contender even if deGrom's pitching for their opponent. Five baseball games? Are you fucking kidding me?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 No point in bailing on the season when you're half a game out of the last wildcard spot.I thought Stroman was worth the gamble; he had a good resumé in the toughest division in baseball, and he did help the Mets get back in it last year. But circumstances conspired against it working out. I don't fault Brodie for that, although thinking that they didn't need to at least break even on Wheeler was a huge mistake.Stroman said all the right things, but of course he'll go to the team that opens their wallet the widest.
