G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Author Posted March 12, 2020 Jeff Passan: ST suspending, regular season opening delayed.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Probably for the best for now.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Hopefully the sale of the Mets is not also suspended.Signed,Mr. Brightside
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 More time for Conforto to recover.Outside of that, I got nothin'.

Last year, I predicted I wouldn't finish the set before the 2020 season starts, but who knows now? It's total havoc now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I think we need to have a We Won Today book club meeting.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Author Posted March 12, 2020 “At least two weeks” of regular season.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Would be cool if the Tuesday Night Mets Club winds up with opening night tickets by mistake when they purchased the specifically because they were chap and held such little demand
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I can't see them making up the lost games ... not two week's worth. That would require either LOTS of DH's which neither players nor owners want or essentially ZERO off days once they get going. So we're almost certainly looking at a shortened season, the only question remains: how short?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Say it ain't so, [CROSSOUT]Joe [/CROSSOUT]Greg.Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 130-140 is my guess. Season starts on or around April 30
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 And wives everywhere are preparing "honey-do" lists because the husbands can't say "not now, I'm watching a game". (as my wife just mentioned to me)Later

What was that? Ten days?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Is it really worth trying to make up so many games?? For what purpose? Because they can?

What was that? Ten days?Which they did by extending that season for a week and pushing, for the first time, the post-season into November. But these days that's the default schedule so will they go into the second/third week of November? I don't see that either.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 If they want to reschedule the division games they can get rid of the interleague games. I'd be fine with that.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 The first weeks of the season have a lot of off days. I can see them making those games up during the season and maybe some extra time at the end. World Series in a warm weather, neutral site?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 ESPN and Fox Sports are going to have show kids playing sports games on PlayStation soon.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I'd rather watch kids play video games.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Doesn't Jeff Wilpon own a team in the Overwatch League?I think SNY may be set.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 I could really care less about the suspension of March Madness or the NHL or the NBA. But, fuck, taking my baseball away, that's the worst. Will it even really be spring?

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 I gotta say there's a karmic comeuppance somewhere in the delay of a season that was starting obscenely early and leaden with a bunch of stupid new rules that nobody knows how are to work out and the sport smarting from who knows how much cheating scandals. If I were an owner, I'd make Manfred walk the plank now just for the appearance of a clean slate but I'm sure they'll have him stick around long enough to complete the tasks of screwing over the minor leagues and the MLBPA.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 This just made Cespedes about $5 million - now he should be ready to be on the major league roster when the season starts. And it will give Conforto more time to heal, he won't feel anxious to rush back.See, there's a bright side to everyth.... who am I fooling? This sucks.Later

I bet a bunch of them don't like baseball either. And a shortened season might be a boon for them too, as more teams probably stay competitive 'longer' plus pure counting stats look lower in negotiations, etc. We've already established basic attendance in the park is a small factor of their riches, and I doubt they're giving back cable money to broadcast the games unless it really gets super-shortened.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 Two years ago when I was worrying about Trump's effect on American life, I remember thinking, "well, things can't be too bad because they are still playing baseball".I know this isn't all his fault, but, fuck.
