NY Post (Sherman*): "The Commissioners Office and Players Association agreed Friday to close all spring training sites and ask players to return home, a joint decision that strongly suggests that

MLB's absence will be marked by months
not weeks."

Of course, the MFYs have volunteered to stay in Tampa and work out on their own.(as heard on WCBS radio this evening)

Gatherings of 50 or more people should be canceled or postponed for the next eight weeks in order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to new guidance from the US Centers for

Disease Control and Prevention
. “This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by

the virus,” the agency said.

Now this sounds like nothing more than a suggestion at this point and will shirley be subject to review as conditions change. But even if it remains nothing more than a recommendation, it'll be tough for a

big and public operation like MLB to just openly say; 'Yeah, we're not listening to you', and eight weeks would put us in the area of mid-May.

2021 Spring training is the next possible next port of call for MLB

Getting it together in 8 weeks to play ball is a fantasy at this point

Wouldn't it stand to reason a couple of teams may not be able to handle the financial hit?

Players still get paid I guess while MLB will possibly lose in the billions. Hoping for the best

Just sayin...

I sure hope so. The economy may be so flattened that the economics of baseball will look wildly different

Like, who the eff can afford tickets in many markets?

Officially now no earlier than mid-May

From mlb.com

On Monday, Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. conducted a conference call with the 30 Clubs of Major League Baseball. Following last night's newly updated recommendations from the Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention (CDC) restricting events of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks, the opening of the 2020 regular season will be pushed back in accordance with that guidance.

MLB will keep fans updated on decisions regarding plans for the 2020 schedule in the days and weeks ahead. The Clubs remain committed to playing as many games as possible when the season begins. We will

continue to monitor ongoing events and undertake the precautions and best practices recommended by public health experts, and urge all baseball fans to follow suit. MLB extends its best wishes to all the

individuals and communities who have been impacted by the coronavirus.

Will the clubs be training together?

Are the clubs currently training together?

It would be kind of goofy if the seasons open with regular season games played in spring training style, with 40-man rosters and short pitch counts and a parade of one-inning relievers and universal DH-ing and floating taxi squads for road trips and shit. But I guess that's possible.

Will the clubs be training together? -- Probably at some point

Are the clubs currently training together? -- Nope.

It would be kind of goofy if the seasons open with regular season games played in spring training style ... -- Likely to be some changes (28 man rosters for a time?) but, now that everyone was mostly

ramped up it's not like the players are going to use this off time to go back to their off-season job of selling men's suits like in the old days. Pitchers can throw on their own and most everyone has access

to a batting cage and/or live arms. Maybe two weeks together starting in early May and it should be no problem.
