  1. I was playing around with the B-R Play Index free mode earlier this week, trying to figure out if the Mets do, in fact, make starting pitchers in the first few games of their career look good. I did this search: From 2010 to 2019, Against NYM, as Starter, In first 10 games, (requiring game_score>=70) and got 14 games. I was pretty sure we were the worst by a lot, but the Phillies and Royals had 14 also, and there a few teams who had 10-11.
  2. =dgwphotography post_id=10989 time=1558697538 user_id=78] I can't be the only viewer, when seeing Billy Ripken on MLB Network, who thinks, “Hey, it's F*ck Face.”
  3. Or maybe he had a 1080 tattoo and asked Mickey to leave him out until someone else was called up.
  4. I voted for Mays too, even though he's before my time. As much as I loved the moment that the Knight cover represented, it's kind of a bleh photo.
  5. I don't think I'll ever have any specific Broxton memories, and in two years, I'm going to be pretty confident that G-Fafif just made him up.
  6. =kcmets post_id=10671 time=1558454479 user_id=53] From NY POST: [bLOCKQUOTE]Asked whether Cespedes' activity might have compromised his right to be paid, Van Wagenen said, “We haven't even thought about implications to the contract.”[/bLOCKQUOTE] I find this hard to believe.
  7. Fine, I'll play by Edgy's rules. Bench Coach: Bobby V, definitely. Can show DW the ropes. Batting Coach: Cliff Floyd is a brilliant idea. Ass't Batting Coach: Paul LoDuca. Bonus: catching coach. Pitching Coach: Pedro Martinez. Could teach these guys a little something. Bullpen Coach: Pedro Feliciano. Nobody better. First Base Coach: Edgardo Alfonzo. Needs to be back on the big league staff. Third Base Coach: Joe McEwing. Who doesn't love Super Joe? Quality Control Coach: The fuck is this? I don't know, but if you want quality, you'll get it from Carlos Delgado.
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Mets said Gagnon was going to start this one (v. Corbin) now they say maybe he won't. "Does it even matter any more? Whoever gets to the mound first can start or whatever."
  9. Okay, fine, only 35 saves.
  10. Named closer in July after a freak injury to Diaz, and wins the 2019 Cy Young Award with 41 second-half saves as the Mets go 60-15 down the stretch.
  11. Ron Luciano's trilogy of books are some of my favorite baseball books, because they're full of stories about crazy arguments.
  12. I think it would be funny if they sent down Wilmer (Font) to make room.
  13. At the time, I thought it was overly ambitious of you to take photos of these guys at Shea before they tore it down, but it's really paying dividends.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Sure. And Buffalo and Pawtucket have none of those weather problems. Or Toledo or Rochester. And every one of us is struggling to get people in the gate this spring. It's entirely logical. And if anything, Syracuse is doing GREAT compared to the rest of the league when you compare average attendance so far to last year's overall average. Edgy MD wrote: Syracuse is 11th of 14 teams in International League attendance, so I'm guessing central New York is unsurprisingly showing themselves to be not as crazy for the Florida Gators as Daytona Beach. So, if attendance is the goal, quality baseball may be a better draw. It has been cold as balls up here, and it's basically rained non-stop since opening day. I haven't been to a game yet, and I drive right past the ballpark every night. Attendance will pick up, I'm sure.
  16. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Nah, Gary was talking about the Pads reliever Maton, and how the best way to know how to pronounce a name is to just ask the player. When I worked at SUNY Old Westbury, I did PA announcing for both our basketball teams. I *always* asked one of the opposing coaches before the game how to pronounce names, because you look like a moron getting it wrong. I distinctly remember the coach from Yeshiva one year thanking me for asking; they said I was the only PA person who'd ever actually took the time to care.
  17. I think they owe it to the fans in other cities who have bought advance tickets just to see him for them to keep him for one series in each opponent's ball park. The Mets owe nothing to other teams, but heck, it's about selling tickets in their *own* park. Once he's not a draw any longer, then they'll let him go. (Or he'll let himself go so he can go make money hosting weird reality shows.) Edgy MD wrote: I don't think that tickets sold should be a concern at all. And yes, of *course* it does. That's the major reason they signed him in the first place.
  18. =G-Fafif post_id=9441 time=1557305621 user_id=55] Thirty-six games into the 2019 season, Pete Alonso has more home runs (11) than Edwin Diaz has saves (9).
  19. Wonderful moment, terrible cover for Ray Knight. I voted Doc also.
  20. This is going to be one of those guy-just-called-up-from-AAA-throws-seven-scoreless-innings games. This fuckin' team, man.
  21. Seriously? How the hell do you not go with "METS ACQUIRE WILMER" here, Lunch? This was on a tee, man.
  22. https://www.facebook.com/JimBreuer/videos/434619137302104https://www.facebook.com/JimBreuer/videos/434619137302104 Jim Breuer, with Mookie in house, on the Buckner play.
  23. I wonder if someone, somewhere, still tracks it. The situation that creates the stat still exists, so it must be somewhere.
  24. At a quick glance, April 2019 appears to be the first full month without a new Met since July 2014.
  25. No, it's a truly awful movie. My two entries are Less Than Zero, which I thought was a terrible movie with a fantastic soundtrack (Aerosmith's cover of "Rockin' Pneumonia," which is one of my favorite Aero songs, along with "Going Back To Cali", "Bring the Noise," and the Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter."), and Last Action Hero, which was even worse, but had Def Leppard, Tesla, AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Aerosmith, and a few others.
