  1. Keep in mind that the Twins haven't beaten the MFYs since like 1994.
  2. It was in 2005, off Joe Borowski. I did a little Googling and a little clicking around B-R, but I can't find any other power hitter with less than five grand slams. HILARIOUS.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: And, as I always like to point out when a player hits his 2nd ML GS, this puts him one ahead of Derek Jeter Wait, WHAT?! How did I not know that stat? That's awesome. 260 home runs, ONE of them with the bases loaded. Because I had to check, three other guys finished their career with 260 home runs. Eric Chavez hit five grand slams, Tim Wallach hit six, and Javy Lopez hit seven. That's gotta be the most career home runs with only one grand slam, right? Gotta be.
  4. =G-Fafif post_id=16556 time=1563915634 user_id=55] Seeing those in Houston and Atlanta, I'd think, OK, it's Houston and Atlanta. This is supposed to be New York.
  5. That's fucking awful.
  6. =G-Fafif post_id=16534 time=1563908268 user_id=55] Mets have plastered Chick-fil-A ads to the foul pole screens like you may have seen in other parks far from New York. Classy.
  7. Completely agree. The Mays cover has no oomph at all; he's an young man who looks old. Casey is looking right at the camera; an old man who looks old and doesn't give a rat's ass what you think. He's going to make your babies not say "mommy, daddy," he's going to make them say "Metsy." Love it.

And with all the drastic steps the powers-that-be are currently taking with regard to manipulating workloads to sustain pitchers' health, I'm not convinced it's been particularly effective. Fully agree, because it feels like the number of pitchers who *don't* have TJS is smaller than the number who do. I don't know what the answer is, either. I appreciate that they're trying to do *something,* though.
  9. =Centerfield post_id=16504 time=1563891073 user_id=65] I know he wasn't the best of guys when he was here, but I still feel bad for him. Could have been a hall of famer. Say what you want, he told his agent to go to hell and put the team first in 2015. I'll cheer for him every time I see him.
  10. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I liked watching him pitch; had a distinct over-the-top delivery. Yes, this. He pitched in the game I saw at Wrigley and it felt like it was even more over-the-top than it looked on TV.

I don't know shit about baseball, and Robles' struggles here spoke for themselves, but I'd have risked all my Cranebucks on his being a vicious kind of closer given the opportunity. He just came off as having the demeanor one needed. This is also why I think the Mets could easily have just given the closer job to Gselly and taken their chances this year: Closers are made not acquired. With the right combo of stuff, demeanor + haircut, anyone can do it.
  12. "Well, hey, at least we'll be able to trade our most tradeable player and get something good in return, right?" Yeah, not so much. https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-place-zack-wheeler-on-il-putting-potential-crimp-in-trade-planshttps://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-place-zack-wheeler-on-il-putting-potential-crimp-in-trade-plans
  13. I don't remember owning ROOS, but I definitely remember seeing them in stores. The first sneaker gimmick I remember buying were the Reebok Pumps.
  14. I just saw this too. This sucks.
  15. Might as well pick this back up, even though I'm a year and a half gone from Stony Brook. Still rooting for these guys, even though things are a little bleak right now. Majors: Minors: Tom Koehler (DL - Pirates): Still on the 60, but working his way back. Hopefully by the end of the year. Travis Jankowski (DL - Padres): Got hurt in spring, currently finishing up rehab. .419 OBP in seven minor league games, should be back very soon. Daniel Zamora (AAA Mets): 5.68 in the bigs, 8.25 in AAA, working his way into LOOGYdom. Nick Tropeano (AAA Angels): Lit up in both of his MLB spot starts; currently back in AAA, where he's 2-2, 6.23 in nine games. Patrick Cantwell (AAA Blue Jays): .255/.345/.314 in 16 games as the backup catcher. Aaron Pinto (A+ Indians): 1.90 ERA in 47 1/3 innings across two levels. Bobby Honeyman (A Mariners): .244/.296/.338 in 339 PA. Nick Grande (A- Diamondbacks): .160/.283/.200 (eight singles and a triple) in 60 PA. Michael Wilson (R Brewers): .216/.324/.432 in 106 PA. Indy: Campbell (Sussex County, Can-Am): 3.96 ERA in 25 innings. Parenty (Schaumburg, Frontier): .279/.324/.380 in 223 PA. Marino (Southern Illinois, Frontier): 7.27 ERA in four starts.
  16. I went with Vargas. In a lot of cases there's pressure to "win" the deal for the fan base. In this instance I think most of the fan base doesnt' care if they ever see Vargas in a Met uniform again, so less urgency to sell the deal as a win to the fans. Plus I think there's some residual distaste over the whole locker room thing in Wrigley. I agree with the second half of that - I think he's halfway out of town already. But I don't think the front office gives a rat's ass about "winning" trades, for themselves or anyone else, except financially. The first team willing to absorb the rest of his deal will get him for a low-level relief pitcher.
  17. OKAY, KIDS. HERE WE GO. 72-0 in the second half. Let's do this.
  18. I think Wheeler is most likely. They're not trading Syndergaard or Dom. No way.
  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: A book that changed my life. I worshipped the ground baseball players walked on until I picked up a copy at age 13. The scales fell from my eyes when I finished that book. It probably made me a more cynical teenager, but also made me less susceptible to bullshit. May your cap always fly off, Jim Bouton. Absolutely, this. Ball Four, If At First, and the first two Ron Luciano books were baseball literary royalty to me as a kid. Also one of my March 8 birthday buddies.
  20. Close enough. https://twitter.com/Joshuatcohen/status/1148783302918266883https://twitter.com/Joshuatcohen/status/1148783302918266883
  21. 8pm ET on ESPN. Alonso vs Carlos Santana in the first round. https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2019/07/07/USAT/beb0626c-38cf-45a1-88f0-a256c35195ba-mlb-home-run-derby-bracket-2019-v2_Social.png>
  22. Defensive metrics are what they are, but only Tim Anderson of the White Sox has more errors at short, and Anderson can at least hit, even if he walks *less* than Rosario does.
  23. Back up the truck. Thanks For The Memories, But You're a Twin/Padre/Diamondback/Whatever Now: Frazier Wheeler Gsellman Lugo Lagares Vargas No Real Trade Value Anyway, but Maybe: Matz Font Wilson Hechavarria Not Going Anywhere, Even If We Want Them To, Because Contract: Lowrie Familia Cano Ramos Not Going Anywhere, Because They're Good/Cheap/Young: Diaz Rosario Davis Nido If You Trade Them, We March On Flushing: deGrom Syndergaard Conforto Nimmo McNeil Dom Smith Alonso
