  1. Keith Olbermann on Berger. [youtube:3f7jx93w]jHHmMAcOIXg[/youtube:3f7jx93w]
  2. I can't believe this is a thing. http://www.newnownext.com/anthony-recker-has-the-best-butt-in-baseball/12/2014/ Facebook WWW.FACEBOOK.COM
  3. The pictures are all over eBay; poke around. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Topps-Baseball-Color-Negative-Jack-Fisher-New-York-METS-/191449740727 Also: Sy Berger, the father of modern baseball cards, passed away. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12027167/sy-berger-father-modern-day-baseball-cards-dies-age-91
  4. I'd prefer they went after Kodos.
  5. If that's official, I like it. Mayberry career vs LHP: .269/.324/.533 with 30 HR in 490 AB.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: If we're going to trade for a SS then trade for a real SS. We've already got makeshift ones. That's what bothers me about a lot of this. I'm all in on Flores for '15. Let's see what happens. If we're in contention, and an Ian Desmond-type becomes available, then let's talk. But trading Thor for another team's project is dumb.
  7. There are a lot of dbags in the Hall. Dick Allen wouldn't be the first. But when you look at the b-r similarity scores, for example, his closest comparisons are guys like Willie Mays and Duke Snider as a young player (and David Wright, interestingly), and as he gets older, it's Chipper/Sheffield/Stargell. He's a better case than Gil, in my mind.

You can make a case that Gil was really good, but not quite good enough. You can't make it in a room full of Mets fans, but you can make it. There is no case against Dick Allen. 53rd best OPS in history and led his league four times in his career. 19th best OPS+ ever. Lousy fielder, but he wouldn't be the first good-hit, no-field corner infielder in the HOF. The only argument against him was that he was supposed to be an ass, though I don't doubt there was a good bit of racism behind that label. Put the man in already. This, I think. It's hard for New Yorkers to take the emotion out of the Gil debate, but I just don't think it's going to happen.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Abstaining, I guess, would help in theory. But if a supporter of Tim Raines thinks not casting his vote for Tim Raines or anybody is the best way to push his numbers up, he or she is wrong. Agreed.
  10. Ceetar wrote: Buster Olney too on the abstaining. Abstaining helps, though, because then it doesn't count toward the percentage. The blank ballots are the idiotic ones.
  11. d'Kong76 wrote: Scooped again! Go ahead. Try to get an internet fastball past Greg. It's impossible.
  12. Gee, but he also brings the smallest return.
  13. Niese, although I'd be okay watching Colon for another year.
  14. The only card that's particular to that set is the 17th card, which is a "Citi Field" card. On the Update variations: those three you posted are the short-printed variations. The fourth Met variation is Dice-K; the short-printed one shows him bunting. No other deGrom variations; the only other Met SPs are two "sabermetric stats" and one "sparkle."
  15. Seriously. That was perfect; I feel like this thread is geared up for big things this year.
  16. The Yankees are paying $9M a year for a LOOGY: http://nyyfans.com/yankees/yankees-to-sign-andrew-miller-to-four-year-36-million-deal/
  17. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: How come teams demand our young guns, then go and make a deal with another team for lesser players? Because we never know what they're actually demanding, just whatever Beat Writer X needs to say to sell papers/get clicks.
  18. Didi Gregorius sucks, kids. I'm thrilled he's a Yankee.
  19. I lament the death of physical tickets; I've saved almost all my stubs through the years. I use the duplicates as bookmarks. Back when CDs were a thing, I would put the ticket stub inside the back of the CD case of the concerts I went to.
  20. Madoff's Mets wrote: Oh and being a Mets fan in the 1960's hurt me financially. I hated the Yankees so much, I would use Mickey Mantle cards as noisemakers on the spokes of my bicycle. That's pretty funny. And your other post reminded me that I bought a box of 88 Score packs for five bucks in Cooperstown last fall, and I have no idea where I put it. I need to find that.
  21. There are a handful of throwaway Mets in the Update set this year: Chris Young, Matsuzaka, Satin, Q, Andrew Brown. No "Future Is Now" cards for deGrom in the set, though.
  22. K, I got one.
  23. Now I get the Apple one. Dock Med Itch.

  25. I am honestly stunned that anyone would vote for less than ten people this year.
