  1. Methinks Akeel Morris isn't quite ready yet. Good effort, rook. See you in September.

Special guest appearance by Iwan Rheon." and because most MLB teams share promotional ideas/vendors, this will happen ~20 times next year. Actually, I think that would be an appropriate punishment.
  3. Post-draft update! Majors: Nathan (Detroit): Injured; TJ surgery, will miss the year. Could be the end of the road. Koehler (Miami): 5-4, 3.76. Turning it around. Beat the Yankees the other night. Minors: Tropeano (AAA Angels): 2-2, 5.11 in AAA. Dealing with rotator cuff tendinitis. Jankowski (AA San Diego): .329/.412/.412 with 23 SB, will start Texas League All-Star Game. HE'S COMING, PADRES. Cantwell (AA Texas): .218/.273/.277 in 101 AB. Tissenbaum (A+ Tampa): .281/.388/.342, and is finally catching every day. Rakkar (A+ Chicago): 2.70 ERA and 7 saves. McNitt (A Houston): 0-2, 6.00. Five starts. Krause (A- Pittsburgh): Is on the 7-day DL, but can't figure out why. 2015 Draftees! Ryley MacEachern (Florida, 33rd round): Unsigned as of today. Daniel Zamora (Pittsburgh, 40th round): Unsigned as of today.

  5. The Rays used two position players last night too -- infielders Jake Elmore (the Blues Brother?) and Nick Franklin -- and Nats catcher Wilson Ramos homered off both of them. That HAS to be a first.
  6. Getting back on topic AGAIN... ...they were obviously talking about this on the broadcast last night, and my wife was surprised that they were concerned about baseball ramifications when there could be legal, "imprisonable" ramifications. And she's right, but baseball has no control over that. They do have control over the baseball ramifications (loss of draft picks, fines, having Yadier Molina drawn and quartered, etc.) although I read that MLB will wait for the FBI to do its thing first. And this is nothing like the Patriots, because that was breaking league rules, which the NFL has control over, not laws.
  7. Can we get back to the matter at hand? I propose that they strip the Cardinals of everything going back to the end of the eighth inning, Game 7 NCLS 2006 and force them to replay it from there.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Mets southeast regional staff better get a sweet bonus: Florida, North Carolina, Florida, Florida. IF ONLY THERE WAS A COLLEGE SOMEWHERE UP HERE IN THE NORTHEAST, DICKHEADS. (Actually, I don't anticipate any of our guys going until tomorrow. But still.)
  9. Zvon wrote: Didn't I give someone some McReynolds Padres borders to make cards with? Where's the beef!? That was me. Still haven't done anything with them; I should probably get on that.
  10. batmagadanleadoff wrote: There are no Topps cards of McReynolds as a Padre. I figured though, that by now, what with the make your own baseball card fad picking up more steam with each passing year, I'd be able to easily find DIY or custom Topps Padres cards of McReynolds. I couldn't. Not even one. As the forum's resident KMac fan, I asked about that once. He didn't sign a contract with them until he got traded. Not sure why he signed with Fleer and Donruss and not Topps, but that was why.
  11. batmagadanleadoff wrote: How could you tell Wynne's card is a box-bottom (it is!) just by looking at it? Because those were the only 88s with anything other than a white border. #baseballcardnerd batmagadanleadoff wrote: seawolf17 wrote: Swisher coached in the mid-90s. We had this discussion in the Cubs thread. So it's Zinter and Wynne as the interlopers; Wynne was in the Mets system in the mid-80s. I didn't card Zinter. Unless I did unwittingly. Where do you see Zinter? Or perhaps, Alex Torres is subliminally reminding you of the original big hatted Met. Also, there are now four interlopers pictured. I added the other two when I edited the thread to include some Padres managers I had initially omitted. I didn't see Zinter either; just assumed someone else did. There's a lot of cards up there. Zinter was never a Padre either, so I'm not even sure how this whole thing happened. Wynne is still right, though.

  13. In 1988, Topps thought Marvell Wynne, coming off a season where he was a pinch-hitter (only started 40 games) and hit .250, was worthy of a box bottom card? I have zero recollection of this. Also, Marvell Wynne was definitely never a Met.

  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: seawolf17 wrote: RHP AJ Ramos (Nick Vincent) -- 0.78 ERA in 23 innings. Has been excellent. Will give up a big home run this weekend. Fuck this fucking guy. He's the reason we fell out of first place. He broke d'Arnaud's hand, that bitch. I blocked that from my memory entirely.
  16. Okay, kids. It's the Fish. We play them all the time, Tom Koehler, Stony Brook, blah blah blah. Some insights: TONIGHT 7:10: Dan Haren (4-2, 3.09) vs Matt Harvey (162-0, 0.00) Haren's 4-3, 4.82 in 11 career starts against us, 2-1, 5.82 at Citi Field. Coming off a 1-0 victory over the O's. Tweets at @ithrow88, so at least he has a sense of humor. Threatened to retire rather than report to Miami after the offseason trade. Didn't. Closest B-R Comparison Through His Current Age: Bill Gullickson. TOMORROW 4:10: Tom Koehler (3-3, 3.44) vs Jonathon Niese (3-5, 4.08) Koehler, an early frontrunner for the 2016 NL Cy Young Award, is 1-4, 3.48 against us, 0-2, 5.28 at Citi Field. Also coming off a victory against the O's. Gave up seven runs in the fourth inning and lost what would be our eighth straight win in April. CBRSTHCA: Bob Stoddard. SUNDAY 1:10: David Phelps (2-2, 3.56) vs Bartolo Colon (161-0, 0.00) Phelps is a former Yankee. Mostly sucks. CBRSTHCA: Randy O'Neal. BULLPEN (CBRSTHCA): RHP Carter Capps (John Pacella) -- lefties just 2 for 26 against him, despite his RHPness. LHP Mike Dunn (Rafael Perez) -- 991st all time in JAWS. Will face Lucas Duda at some point. RHP Sam Dyson (N/A) -- eighth in the NL with three wild pitches in 2015. Blew their last game (Wednesday night vs Pittsburgh) in the 7th. RHP Vin Mazzaro (Jason Davis) -- has only thrown three major league innings in 2015. Had a 3.15 ERA with good peripherals in AAA. RHP Bryan Morris (Sergio Romo) -- 981st all time in JAWS. (Suck it, Mike Dunn.) RHP AJ Ramos (Nick Vincent) -- 0.78 ERA in 23 innings. Has been excellent. Will give up a big home run this weekend. RHP Andre Rienzo (Billy Buckner) (No, not that one, the pitcher.) -- First Brazilian in Marlins history. RHP Steve Cishek (Brad Lidge) -- 3-5, 5.34 career vs Mets. Blows saves regularly. OFFENSE: IF Jeff Baker (Herbert Perry) -- Joe McEwing, basically. 1B Justin Bour (n/a) -- Started the season with six hits in seven AB, which included two PHs against the Mets. Now "down" to .368, but could start as Mike Morse is on the DL. Homered Wednesday night. Wears #48, which seems weird to me. 2B Dee Gordon (Chippy McGarr) -- Gets on base, makes things happen. Leads NL in PA, AB, H, AVG, SB, and CS, but not runs because the rest of this team can't hit their way out of a paper bag. Did not beat out Tom Koehler at one point: Instagram INSTAGRAM.COM Create an account or log in to Instagram - Share what you're into with the people who get you. SS Adeiny Hechavarria (Jim Levey) -- .299/.330/.395 for a 99 OPS+. Sounds about right. CF Marcell Ozuna (Vernon Wells) -- Threw out two Mets at home plate in one game last season, including Kirk to end the game, and I have hated him ever since. 3B Martin Prado (Wil Cordero) -- Grounds into double plays like it's his job. C JT Realmuto (n/a) -- OPS+ of 55 this season. Starter. LOLOLOLOLOLOL IF Donovan Solano (Jerry Lumpe) -- OPS+ of 42. Brother of Jhonatan Solano. C Jhonatan Solano (n/a) -- One hit in 17 AB for an OPS+ of -37. Brother of Donovan Solano. OF Yadier Solano (n/a) -- Just seeing if anyone's actually reading this. No relation to either Solano, as I made him up. RF Giancarlo Stanton (Juan Gonzalez) -- If you need me to tell you about Giancarlo Stanton, then you're probably not much of a baseball fan. LF Ichiro Suzuki (Kenny Lofton, sort of, but there's really nobody like him) -- Replacement level these days, but he's still dangerous. Ask Alex Torres. LF Christian Yelich (Jose Tabata) -- Has a big contract and an OPS+ of 56. Splitting time with Ichiro, more or less. Did win a Gold Glove last year, though, which I don't recall at all. MY FAVORITE MARLINS STAT OF THE YEAR: The Marlins are 13-7 when Ichiro starts in LF, and 5-23 when Yelich starts. PREDICTION: They've lost 14 of their last 17, are managed by the guy who won all those games on Jeopardy!, and we're 19-6 at home. Sweep.
  17. I still follow Chipper on Twitter. It's clearly him, just tweeting from his phone, not some PR flack.
  18. Does it help us win baseball games? Then I'm all for it. Let's see what happens.
  19. I miss Lenny Harris. They played a between-innings video many years ago where they asked the question, "Who's the funniest guy on the team?" It had a dozen or so players, all saying "Lenny Harris," followed by Lenny giggling and saying "me."
  20. Okay. So we're all in agreement that the combination of "Ben Zobrist, Met" and "Steve Matz, A" sucks. Can we get back to panicking about our franchise third baseman please?

  22. What the hell is wrong with you people? A 34-year-old Ben Fucking Zobrist coming off the DL is NOT the answer, unless Oakland's eating money, and they're not. Especially not for Matz. Crikey.
  23. This is a fun thread; I don't have the time to do research on this one because I'm running out to a meeting, but I love it.
  24. Nice touch on McCarver.
