What about a dreadful team, like the Astros, who I keep forgetting are in the AL now. Yes, this. I think he'll get a deal with an option or something along those lines.
  3. JJ Putz stays on with the DBacks - but will do so in the front office as a "special assistant" to the team Pres/CEO Derrick Hall. He was with the Snakes in 2014 but hadn't pitched since mid-June. Wound up pitching 11 seasons in the majors, eight of which were quite good. His three bad ones?: his first season, his last season, and his Mets season. I loved that trade so much at the time.
  4. Ashie62 wrote: I didn't realize Octavio Dotel retired. He was a star in the grand slam single game. That's too bad. I wanted him to keep adding teams to his resume. Retires at "only" 13.
  5. metsmarathon wrote: and so my question to you all is, what would you be willing to give up in return for yasiel puig, assuming you even want him and his exuberant, childish, and seemingly self-destructive baggage? YES on Puig. What do the Dodgers want? Cost-controlled pitching? A bullpen arm? I don't know.
  6. Lefty Specialist wrote: Dear god, no. I'd rather re-sign Chris Young than trade for Victorino. I'd rather trade for Chris Young The Pitcher and stick him in center field than trade for Victorino.
  7. d'Kong76 wrote: edit: Holy crap, I forgot David Wright. Haha, I copied and pasted your list yesterday into my Excel sheet as a starting point and started looking at it this morning and was like, "this can't be Wright!" I saw that Chuck had Wright tenth and thought "man, how is he that low? I had to have him higher, right?" and realized I'd left him off entirely. Oops.
  8. Gwreck wrote: Colon in the negative, as you might expect: his batting seriously hurt the Mets. Really? In what, sixty AB? That's surprising. His pitching wasn't that bad.

  12. Urbina cut yesterday, sez the internet. Edgy MD wrote: Gonna be a lot of movement this offseason. Assuming for the sake of discussion that no free agents are signed before the Rule V Draft, which six guys get added? My guess: Syndergaard, Bradford, Leathersich, Morris, Thornton, Taijeron.
  13. What do you give Toronto to make that work, though? They're not that far off in their division, so you'd have to give them something of substance. Hence Colon and Murphy.
  14. Centerfield wrote: At your disposal are Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Daniel Murphy, Wilmer Flores, Brandon Nimmo, Kevin Plawecki, Rafael Montero, Stephen Matz and Dilson Herrera. Some combination of these guys can get it done. For the right guy (Stanton) I may even be willing to give up one of Zack Wheeler, Travis d'Arnaud or Lucas Duda too. Colon (11M) Niese (16M/2 years, plus two option years) Murphy (arb - 10M?) Montero/Matz for Bautista (14M) Reyes (70M/4 years, 22M in '15) Dickey (13M) Adds a lot of salary on our end, which is why it'll never happen. But in my fantasy world, this trade is announced this afternoon.

I don't think he makes it if he tries. Look at the replays-- absent one of the relay guys losing an arm in mid-throw, there's absolutely no way he makes it if he tries. Probably. But that doesn't mean he's not kicking himself in retrospect, considering they'd gotten nothing off Bumgarner the whole way.

  17. Edgy MD wrote: Bummy suddenly not superhuman! Check that. Yes he is.
  18. I will never understand why guys dive into first base.
  19. Funny how history repeats itself -- on Saturday, October 25, my Little League Mets came into the playoffs against a Red Sox team that had beaten us twice already, but we pulled out a miraculous win. Then, in the afternoon game, which was the semifinals, we gave up a bunch of runs early and lost to the Dodgers. Your mid-80s Mets, reborn.
  20. You're looking at the old old dimensions there. There's a white panel on the wall, just to the right of the apple, that shows the difference; and a chalky-looking track that leads out from the right side of that white panel that shows where the 2014 wall was. So it's only a small move.
  21. Valadius wrote: Ashie62 wrote: Brian Cole. My thoughts as well. Yeah, that was my immediate thought. Gone too young.
  22. I would trade a young pitcher for the last year of Cespedes' deal, straight up. Montero or someone of that ilk. If the team bombs, he and Colon are massive (HA!) trade chips over the summer.
  23. I know. I remember looking at the stats when he was dealt and wasn't all that impressed. BUT he's only 26.
  24. He's a good fit. A deal somewhere between Chris Young and Bartolo Colon makes sense. I think having him here will benefit David too.
