We're gearing up locally here for another season of AAA Mets baseball and I am your man on the scene ! As was the case last summer my son will return to work there, in the gift shop for sure but also angling for a position in the media booth (which aligns with his college major and because I have a buddy who works up there and is lobbying on his behalf). This means more comped tix for my family and I so we're all in on this. This week's big story is that the team nickname, originally set to change from the Syracuse Mets to some new moniker for the start of the 2027 season, will actually not happen for another full season due to a copyright problem. They essentially picked a nickname someone else had already come up with. Mets gonna Met I suppose. This quote from the linked article above, though, is what gives me the most pause: Which means they're queueing up something cartoonishly stupid, you just watch.

I attended my first Mets game in person sometime in 1976 or 1977, I would think. But I have no way of knowing what day or who they played, I do not recall even who the opponent was. Maybe a Cubs game?

I think this is the year that Alvarez, Vientos and Baty all show that a single good year, or stretch of months, isn't just a fluke in each case. Because I'm optimistic. I also drink a decent amount, that helps

We enjoyed watching him pitch here in Syracuse last summer. I don't have any specific memories of him at either AAA or the big league club though.

Still my wife's favorite Met of the last 15-20 years. She'd be estatic, though I don't see him fitting on the 2026 Mets roster.

He had good MLB numbers last year albeit a small sample (2.25 ERA in 14 IP). Here's hoping for the dead cat bounce with this guy
