  1. Yeah I'm changing my answer to Max Krack-knick
  2. Phil Maton on a one year deal to help bolster the St. Louis bullpen
  3. Episode 85 of the Mets on Tap podcast now available for listening ! Catch Ceetar and I discussing catching depth, spring injuries, rotation battles, ticket prices, and the alarming trend of local breweries closing their doors. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mets-on-tap/id1558213831 Or, you know, don't listen, and just go **** off in the corner somewhere.
  4. I think doctor's cut his elbow open and find that it's all just ticker tape in there where it should be tendons and such. Sucks to suck
  5. Home opener is Tuesday, April 1st. April baseball in Syracuse is mad stupid, don't kid yourself. In more immediately relevant news, if you're at a home game in my town this summer after mid May, swing by the souvenir shop and say hello to Fboy, who has secured summer employment there and is excited to be on the Mets' payroll this year !
  6. We're dynamic and insightful. Well, except for me, as I started drinking several hours before we recorded. Maybe it still turned out all right.
  7. What about WPIX games though?
  8. While I'm sure many of you have been enjoying the regular off season content from G-Fafif and company in the National League Town podcast, I'm happy to announce the return of the much beloved (presumably) Mets on Tap podcast for this season, where Ceetar, ABNS, Seawolf and I will be discussing all things both Mets and craft beer related (recording tonight, posting tomorrow morning). Listen/subscribe via normal podcast sources or from our site https://www.barleyprose.com where episodes are also posted
  9. Marcus Stroman, who went 10-9 last year with an ERA of 4.31 and is projected as the MFYs sixth best starter, having a hissy fit already because he's a starter and will not pitch out of the bullpen. I liked him when he wore our colors but he seems like a dick since he left.
  10. George Harrison
  11. I think he hits 45 HRs in 2025, which is a pace of about 9 per month. As streaky as Pete is I think that's reasonable. So that'd put him right around the beginning of July. I'll go with July 12 which is Fgirl's birthday.
  12. We're getting down to the wire. Pitchers and catchers report a week from today. Position players report a week from Monday. That's twelve days hence. You'd have to think that both the Alonso and Bregman contracts will be resolved by that Monday/Tuesday (Toronto position players report Tues 2/18).
  13. Cookie Carrasco signs a minor league deal with the MFYs. He's been much more of a tomato can than a cookie in the last two seasons.
  14. It's not even the right sport. What does Boomer Esiason know? I won't believe it until Mark Messier is reporting the same
  15. Heyman reporting now that Pete "desperately" wants to return to the Mets. Of course he does!
  16. Well cited
  17. For all of Pete's self-professed Mets love over the years, don't forget that he rejected a $150+ million dollar offer during the summer of 2023 so that he could play the market. I loved rooting for the guy but he dug his own hole here by getting progressively worse for the last couple of seasons and holding out for the big payday. I'm sure the MLBPA and his agency has a role in that decision too, but, ultimately, some people actually do take less money to play where they already love playing. And some are Pete. There, I said it. I think the Mets pivot and spend and still upgrade the roster before opening day 2025. I know they want to see what they have in some of the younger bats but the Cohen regime generally has been willing to spend on positional help. They did it very late in the game last spring with the J.D. signing and I think hopefully they learned not to let things linger on so long - get these guys situated in time for a proper spring training at least.
  18. It'd be a pretty big bummer to see him wearing someone else's colors in 2025. Especially if the intent is to not sign Bregman or Santander and just go with the cheaper in-house options (Acuna, Mauricio, Baty), none of which have a proven MLB track record. So we're potentially plus Soto but minus Alonso, and JD Martinez's numbers. And the rotation is a downgrade from the 2024 rotation, at least on paper. So I'm not getting a warm fuzzy from this one
  19. As long as Alex Bregman is also unsigned, and there's another option on the table in free agency that could bring a (relatively) comparable amount of offense from the 1B/3B positions, I'm not sweating this.
  20. He's 30 and this is his last chance at a truly big pay day, unless he opts for a one year deal somewhere where he attempts to have a bounce back. I don't know that he gets more than six years from anyone truth be told.
  21. I feel like the Soto signing has one of two effects on Pete's scenario: 1. He's likely to go to the MFYs, now, who need a power bat to replace Soto and have the very toast-ish Anthony Rizzo manning 1B currently, and can entice him with the short porch, or 2. He's maybe equally likely to resign with the Mets, because he wants to be a part of a championship team in this borough and the Soto deal pushes the needle in the right direction I suppose that some dark horse candidate comes along and offers him stupid money and he takes it to go play somewhere else but I feel it's most likely going to be 1 or 2 above.
  22. Sean Manaea officially passed on his 2025 Mets option to no one's surprise.
  23. The only thing Paul Blackburn will be ready to do is leak icky gray fluid on your driveway. Like an old Bonneville
  24. Sad to give a franchise 30 years to come up with a continuation of a beloved original story only to have it be utter shite. Not this one, which I have not seen, but the ones I have that are comedies are generally pretty rotten.
  25. I was at the game. He did not look particularly sharp
