  1. =Gwreck post_id=162539 time=1720992805 user_id=56] Both Stewart and Gamel were available. Problem is that neither of them are good hitters.
  2. =nymr83 post_id=162534 time=1720989673 user_id=54] Who? Gamel? If Martinez was in the lineup today, as he normally would be, you probably send up Gamel in that spot for McNeil.
  3. I'm glad they called on Martinez. But if you're not calling in your lefty hitting specialist in this situation, he doesn't belong on the roster.

  5. Had 'em all the way.
  6. I remember one per season, and there was no rule about having had to have been with the org all season. I think of John Valentin 2006 as the quintessential DHM. We were desperate for someone to play 2B after Kaz Matsui's celestial level of suckitude, and Omar somehow pulled John Valentin and his 'stache off the scrap heap to do a better than serviceable job until we were able to trade for Luis Castillo. A few good candidates this year. OE: JOSE Valentin
  7. They were running short on ways to settle ties. Though once you start focusing on the second-half record, why worry about making it intraleague? You might as well just look at the whole record for the last 81 games. Also, if two teams finish with the same record and the same intradivision record, the implication is that the team with the worse interleague record wins, since to get the better intraleague record, they'd have to have the worse interleague record.
  8. In the event that the Mets and Cardinals split the season series, next tiebreaker is intradivision record, even though they're in different divisions. Mets are currently 16-12 in the East and Cardinals are 13-12 in the Central.
  9. Time for the old guy with the broom! Padres have an off day, so the Mets wake up tomorrow morning in the second WC spot.
  10. And take Young and Diekman with you!
  11. 7-0 lead in the 9th against a crappy team, and I'm worried.
  12. Torrens is really giving Iglesias a run for his money in the Dark Horse Met of the Year competition.
  13. I'm too lazy to check if Maton is the first 88 in Met history, but I suspect he is.
  14. I think of Corbin as one of those guys who turns into Cy Young when he faces the Mets, but the reality is that the Mets' OPS against Corbin is .823 over his career.
  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Not bragging but just ran into Steve J Rogers on the concourse Well, that's something worth bragging about. Gary, Murph, and Ron calling the game tonight. I guess no matter what happens, Daniel can only hope to be the second best Murphy in Mets broadcasting history.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Just the 'W' ... and a Blown Save This is true even though he didn't give up any runs, as both of the 8th inning runs were charged to Nunez. So if the Mets had lost, Nunez would have gotten the loss, but Diaz would have gotten the blown save. Nunez was credited with a hold.
  17. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I always said Met fans overrated Senga. If you take away his best season the guy sucks. This post didn't get nearly enough appreciation.
  18. This bullpen isn't bad if you spot them six runs.

No question in my mind that Willie Mays used amphetamines, which were much more of a gray area in his time. They were legally declared a controlled substance in 1970, when his career was largely behind him.

  22. I think we all started thinking about that once the word got out. . Not sure yet who I'd vote for, but if we're including active players, Ohtani belongs on the list. One thing is for sure - none of these guys were anywhere near as good as Willie Mays.
  23. You take a guy who is a bit above average at just about everything - he'd even started to get good at CF before he was put in a corner - and you get someone who is really good overall.
