  1. Padres, Nate Colbert
  2. That was a great catch. Nothing embarrassing about that at all.
  3. End this thing already.
  4. Not too hard to excite these Phillies fans, is it?
  5. I think Pete was doing his best to hit a soft popup.
  6. =metirish post_id=169809 time=1726154395 user_id=72] I was full of hope and optimism
  7. Game 7 of the 1973 Series was the first that I thought of. I was 8 at the time, and Garrett popping up to Campaneris was probably the darkest moment of my life up until then. I'm not as invested as I get older. But the last game of the 2007 season, otherwise known as the T#m Gl#vine game, comes to mind.
  8. Weird. I woke up thinking about Ed Kranepool this morning. I was free-associating about team-specific Halls of Fame and how there are players who are iconic to their own fan base and virtually forgotten elsewhere. Which reminded me of how a non-New Yorker friend of mine, who knew I contributed to this forum, once called me and said, "Did you know the Mets once had a player named ED KRANEPOOL???" Uh, yeah, kind of. And then I got to thinking that I knew he'd had some health problems and that I hadn't heard anything about him in a while, and that I hoped he was doing OK. The Mets are going to start running out of room for memorial patches this year, sadly enough. RIP.
  9. I tried Frank Howard for the Minnesota/30 HR, forgetting that he'd played for the Senators that became the Rangers, not the Senators that became the Twins. He actually played in Texas for one season. I wouldn't have guessed he'd been active into the 70s.
  10. I like this strategy of getting hits with runners in scoring position. The Mets should stick with it going forward.
  11. Red Sox. I think Lonborg won in 1967, plus a few from Clemens and Pedro, plus Rick Porcello.
  12. I want to believe it's all just fatigue from being yanked from Southern California to St. Louis to Colorado to Seattle without a rest day. That's a lot of flying, and three different time zones.
  13. [bIGPURPLE]JEFF MCBOOM[/bIGPURPLE] Could've been two runs if Alonso ran a little smarter, but I'll take it.
  14. For a team that was supposed to be punting the season in a way that no season has ever been punted before, the Oakland A's have been surprisingly respectable. Their July was only a half a game behind the Mets. It didn't hurt that they played 7 games against the Angels and went 6-1, but all of their other July games were against good teams. I checked the roster just to see if I'd heard of any of them. TJ McFarland and Vinny Nittoli, who were vaguely familiar because they pitched five innings for the Mets between them. They also have a backup catcher named Kyle McCann who, strangely enough, is not related to catcher James McCann or to catcher Brian McCann.
  15. Minneapolis is a rather nice place. But most cities do have convenient ways to get to the ballpark from the airport by train. Even LaGuardia now has a free bus to the 7 train. The only cities I can think of that don't have easy airport-to-ballpark access by train are Detroit, which is car oriented for obvious reasons, and Los Angeles and Dallas, which are beyond redemption.

  18. What was that supposed to be?
  19. Well, that sure sucked.
  20. I missed the Phillies/Astros and Phillies/Padres, but I was surprised to see that only 0.3% went with my Met/Astro pick of Tommie Agee. I think of the Tommy for Tommie trade as one of the most important in team history.
  21. 1. OPS? Nimmo 2. home runs? Alonso 3. RBI? Alonso 4. Pitcher wins? Senga 5. Pitcher strikeouts? Quintana 6. Saves? Diaz 7. Who is the SHaMVP? Lindor
  22. Fun thread. Niese definitely came to mind when I was thinking about Mets of the Aughts. I'm thinking pre-Seaver era pitchers would have to be excluded, since being an innings-eating plugger pre-1967 meant you had a good chance of being the staff ace. Without checking because I'm lazy and have an auto insurance program in front of me to review, I think Galen Cisco might have been the best pitcher on some of the early teams.
