  1. You just won this year's Miss Ogynist award. Come to the front desk to pick up your prize. Later
  2. Jonah is learning what it will be like when he is brought up to the Mets. His numbers: 5.0IP 3H 1R 1ER 0BB 8K and his ERA is now 1.59. And it looks like he will be the losing pitcher because his team is losing 2-0 in the eighth. OE: He lost. His record is now 8-5. Later
  3. Listen for the garbage cans. Later
  4. I once wrote a song parody about the series to the tune of Takin Care of Business. (I lost a bet to an MFY fan) The rhyme and syntax led me to the following line about Clemens: "Fat coward, bat tossing motherf**ker" I still stand by that description. And Torre was an incompetent manager in the National League. Mariano Rivera added 50 points to his baseball I.Q. Now he's just totally incompetent. Time to take the car keys (and the microphone)away from grandpa'. Later
  5. Any word on my oft injured Calvin Ziegler and Matt Allen? Later
  6. Brazoban gave up 7 runs in one inning last night. I don't think we'll be seeing him for a while. Later
  7. Pena went 1-2 today (a double) and has brought his average up to .299 (with some power) His OPS is .924. He's starting to show why he gets a high ranking on the prospect lists. Later
  8. I threw goat entrails under last night' sturgeon moon. Let's see if it broke the hex on their bats. In the meantime, does anybody want to buy a disemboweled goat? Later
  9. Blackburn started tonight for Syracuse, so he won't be brought up for at least a few more days. Later
  10. Rockumentary about a band that doesn't exist? How about This is Spinal Tap. Later
  11. I always liked the stories he told and the intricacy of the music he used to tell them. But I never really concerned myself with the back stories of any of the musical artists I liked. So I wouldn't be interested in this movie. Later
  12. He's still hitting. He finished the FCL season with a line of .284/ .400/.369/.769 in 49 games. Later
  13. And if you saw him work, you'd quickly realize that Angel Hernandez wasn't an umpire, either. Later
  14. The Mets have had eight games in the last fifty in which the starting pitcher has pitched six or more innings. And David Peterson was all eight. Later
  15. 1960 I was at one of those two All Star games, and I wasn't hallucinating. 6-0 NL. Vern Law was the winning pitcher, Whitey Ford the loser. All the legitimate All-Stars were in it. Here's the box score: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/asgbox/07131960.shtml It was real. And many of the players were multi-timers, It was as real to me as it was to any other 17 year old in the stands. It was a thrill to see them all, including some we never got to see too much (before interleague play and nationally televised games on cable). It was a way to provide that opportunity to those who might not otherwise have one. It might not be as exciting these days. Later
  16. Maybe the pitchers are doing poorly the third time through the order because the cause effect premise they are using is wrong. The pitchers aren't being prepared to do it in the minors (re: Edgy's post about Tong in another thread). They are on pitch/ innings counts in the minors, so their arms don't have the stamina built up to pitch beyond that. This argument is like the old joke about the scientist who cuts the legs off a frog, yells "jump" and the frog doesn't move. So the scientist concludes that when you cut the legs off a frog it goes deaf. It isn't the pitchers. It is the player development system that doesn't prepare him to do it, the organizational system that doesn't allow him to try and the managers who are reticent to test their theory. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Later
  17. Brandon was named International League pitcher of the month for July. His numbers: 🔸 5 starts 🔸 27 IP 🔸 0.67 ERA 🔸 0.81 WHIP 🔸 33 K 🔸 14 H Later
  18. Gavin Williams threw 126 pitched and looked pretty darn effective that third time through the order. (Disclaimer - he was doing it against the Mets) Later
  19. He was the winning pitcher (2-0) today. He pitched one hitless inning and struck out the side. Looks like the injury that had him on the IL has healed (knocking wood). Welcome back, kid. Later
  20. Can you imagine what would have happened if a manager had yanked Bob Gibson or Randy Johnson after six innings? They would be changing the manager (for medical reasons), not the pitcher. Some of those pitchers should grow a pair and tell the manager, "Let me show you I can". Later
  21. Great talent. Hurt far too often. He seems to spend 35-40% of each season on the IL. Giancarlo Stanton-ish? Later
  22. Buena Suerte, Rico. Later
  23. Jonah had another good outing today(no decision): 5.0IP 3H 0R 0ER 2BB 8K his ERA dropped to 1.58 Later
  24. He's back at Binghamton after his rehab from the IL. Later
  25. Whatever they pick it should end in an s, not a singular name like the Syracuse Salt. More traditional. Later
