Only superstars get an 8 year deal. And that is based on how team management views him. So that would be off the table for him. He's not at that point yet. But if he stays this hot for the rest of the year, and at his age, a four or five year deal is certainly a possibility for Vientos. Later

It was announced today that Alvarez may start a rehab assignment this Thursday or Friday, with hopes he could rejoin the team in early September. I never heard which thumb was injured*, but the report said they will be monitoring both his hitting and catching. The report also didn't specify which level they'll be sending him to, but hopefully AAA, so we can get a report from Fmann. * = OE: the injury is to his right thumb, so they will also have to see if he can grip the ball well enough to throw.
