The other day I read a comment about Stearns that said he undervalues first basemen. The person said that if you look at the rosters of his Milwaukee teams, he spent on other positions and pitching and his first basemen weren't costly. I haven't checked that but it seems to be consistent with what we've heard about the negotiations. Later

LOL! Interesting idea that would have traditionalists clutching their pearls. My view is that there are some players you look at and say "That guy's going to be a Hall of Famer". It is that obvious. But for them, no patch is needed. The others? Let them wait. Later

McNeil has been overlooked in many of the articles I've seen about off season moves. With the emphasis on power over average we've seen from him in the past few years, you could say he's starting to "hit like a third baseman". But I don't think he can come close to the power/speed combo that a healthy Mauricio delivers when he returns. But until he does return? Why not McSquirrel? Sometimes, some of the best moves are the ones you don't make. Later

Reports (metsonline.com? amazinavenue.com?) say Mauricio may not be ready for spring training. He's still rehabbing from two surgeries. Will that mean they'll make a Bregman deal? Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter. Later
