  1. The classic Doyle Alexander (short term help) for John Smoltz (long term help) deal. Butto seems to not have regained his old form, Gilbert hasn't progressed as well as they hoped and has been surpassed as a cf prospect by Benge(and Williams), and I had Tidwell going as part of a trade for Roberts in another thread. So, give them a hug, but don't mourn. Just root for Tyler Rogers. Later
  2. I agree. I'm not sure his current level of performance warrants a high price. I'm sure his mother and the White Sox GM believe he's worth it. Later
  3. For something like that, or even a mid grade pitching prospect like Tidwell, it would be ok. Later
  4. We have a GM who got a Jose Siri (career average .207/.265/.403 OPS+= 87), so anything's possible. Later
  5. Jonah threw 74 pitches through 3 innings today, and I guess they figured that was enough. The numbers: 3.0IP 1H 0R 0ER 5BB 8K His ERA is now 1.66. Later
  6. Generally, an acquiring team these days will insist on manufacturer certified pre-owned (CPO) that has been rigorously inspected and reconditioned and meets specific criteria allowing extended selling- team-backed warranty and other benefits. Things have become quite complicated these days. Yabbutt it was only driven on weekends by a little old lady. Later
  7. Just saw (metsmerized?) that they're shopping Blackburn around. Later
  8. Right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez only needed a short walk to join the Toronto Blue Jays after being traded Tuesday by the Baltimore Orioles. Domínguez, who was traded between games of a Tuesday doubleheader in Baltimore, walked over to the visitors' clubhouse to greet his new teammates after the trade. The Orioles traded Domínguez and cash in exchange for right-hander Juaron Watts-Brown, per ESPN. Watts-Brown was previously ranked as Toronto's No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Later
  9. Carson, last year's #1 draft pick, is the first position player I've adopted in over five years. (Andres Regnault) He looks like a keeper. He is currently batting over .350 after being promoted to Binghamton and hit his sixth home run tonight in 21 games. Earlier this year, he hit .302 with 4 homers in 50 games at Brooklyn. He plays center field, bats left, and is 18-3 in SB this year. He walked more than he struck out at each level. Hope to see you in the bigs real soon. Carson. Later
  10. He pitched one hitless inning with 1 K. 9 P, 7 strikes. Later
  11. You got your wish. Huascar Brazobán* was optioned to Syracuse and Devenski was signed to a major league contract. Later * = my pick for dark horse Met of the year.
  12. The dad of my wife's BFF appeared in one of Madonna's videos. He was the old man on the subway in the "Papa Don't Preach" video. I happen to like her music, but have never seen this movie. After reading this thread I might check it out. Later
  13. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-draft-competitive-balance-rounds-set-for-2025 I was just going on what I read on the MLB site. IIRC the Cards Have received compensation. It could be they got a compensation pick because they lost a player. And if that was the reason, they lost a player because they didn't want to pay him. That is a baseball decision, not a financial hardship one. SO, IMO they shouldn't get a compensation pick. Later
  14. If we're going to deal with the Pirates, can we trade the future first offspring of Mr. and Mrs. Met to the Bucs for Livy Dunne? please? OK. So we might have to throw in Keith's cat to even up the deal. Later
  15. If they're going to change anything, I'd like them to eliminate the "Small market" benefits, such as additional compensation picks. St Louis is a cash machine, but because of the population of the city, it is considered a small market team. Those picks, plus their cash situation, give them an unfair advantage over some larger markets. And I'm all for a salary floor. It should be equal to the amount each team gets from the national tv contracts. After that, other baseball operations could be funded out of other operating revenues (local tv and radio, ticket and concession sales, parking fees, etc.) That would open up smaller market teams to free agents if the teams were required to spend the money. Later
  16. Trey is making a rehab start for St. Lucie tonight. Good to see you back! Later
  17. We're waiting breathlessly (well, maybe not) for the corollary post of "Young players the Mets got rid of, who went on to have great careers with other teams". Later
  18. They make more money with a CAP? THAT sounds like somebody who isn't operating with a full deck. Later
  19. I think you nailed it. We're waiting for a ruling. Later
  20. Good for Harper. Someone has to go ratshit crazy on Manfred, sooner rather than later, to stop him from the mental funk he's in that's killing the game we love. Later
  21. One of the missing ones isn't Jack Akers? Later
  22. Darn! and that was going to be my next guess. Akers wasn't right? Later
  23. Right, it was those veterans they took a shot on to see if they had anything left in the tank, like Danny Graves. Later
  24. You're not going to get your name enshrined in Stockholm that way, kid. Keep Trying. Jack Akers Later
