  1. That may have been true with the other players you mentioned, but I'm not sure that would have been true with Mclean. I read an article a few weeks ago about how he has changed his pitch mix this year. He has four pitches, but it wasn't until he developed command of the sweeper that he was ready for the majors. That has become his most effective "out" pitch, he now throws it (IIRC) 40 % of the time and it has made his other pitches more effective. If they had brought him up earlier, I'm not sure if he would be pitching like we've seen. Later
  2. IMO, MLB will have a tough decision on that from a standpoint of merchandising revenue. Will the newly named merchandise catch on and produce repetitive sales, or will the buying be a one year fad? Will rebranding a team turn off the fans of the existing city? Will the lure of buying the new stuff span beyond the team city? Will a Chevy Cubs logo turn off Ford drivers? I'm sure MLB has market research companies compiling and digging through the data to figure all that out. Later
  3. Mets fans are already crazy about their team They don't have to be driven mad. Now it's just a putt. Later
  4. Megill pitched 5 innings of one hit, one walk, four strikeout ball tonight. Later
  5. The Mets just signed old friend Ali Sanchez to a minor league contract. I'm not sure whether that signals good news or bad news about Alvarez. Later
  6. They must really be desperate. Later
  7. The Mid-season ESPN list has 6 Mets: Williams McLean Tong Benge Ewing Sproat and one in the "next 10" - Reimer. Not bad. Later
  8. Senger has been called up. Later
  9. Back on track. His numbers tonight (no decision) 6.0IP 2H 1R 1ER 1BB 8K 0HR his season's ERA in now 4.24 (83 pitches) Later
  10. Now they're saying that if he can't play through it when he returns, he would have to have season ending surgery. Don't slide head first should be above the door in every locker room, right under No Gambling. Later
  11. From SNY Later
  12. Barnes is essentially another Torrens (career OPS+ of 80 vs Torrens' 79). But he is better than Senger's under 20.(limited sample size). Depending on how long Alvarez will be out, why not bring up Parada? He was a #1 pick in 2022, and at least has some power (9 HR this year, 13 last year at AA). Let's see what he can do. Later
  13. Pack up all our cares and woes, He really sucked. Now, there he goes. Bye Bye Blackburn. Later
  14. Joe Schultz Later
  15. Believe it or not, it seems they're giving the minor leaguers a little more rope. IIRC, Sproat and Tong have has pitch counts into the 90s this year. Later
  16. Elian Pena went 4-5 today with 3 HR. And he's still an "orphan". Later
  17. Funny, because I just read that 37% of rookies brought up to the majors over the last ... (I forget the number) years are named Jackson. And I'm not sure if that was real or tongue in cheek. Later
  18. A lot of work put into that analysis. Good job. Later
  19. I didn't see anything other than East / West that makes me think they will be broken into eight 4 team divisions. If he wants to keep some of the "old feel", why not 4 eight team divisions(2 East, 2 West)? It would bring back some of the old school feel, when there were 8 team leagues. Later
  20. I feel like Don Corleone, sadly telling the mortician, "Look how they messed with my boy". Later
  21. Yes. Hits given up by the pitcher who relieved him drove in the last three runs. Later OE: Ding! The light just went on. You were pointing out that runs could be scored without the benefit of home runs- your message all year long. Well played.
  22. Jonah is now 1-0 in AAA. His numbers in his first start at that level: 5.2IP 3H 0R 0ER 2BB 9K and his ERA is obviously 0.00 He threw 90 pitches, and 60 were strikes. Later
  23. As Jim Brosnan was told by his manager (Solly Hemus?) in The Long Season, "Throw as hard as you can for as long as you can". A good philosophy. Later
  24. Yes. That philosophy would have to be changed, not just the coach or manager who are following orders. Later
