  1. Taylor dancers , with a better lineup than the Mets. Later
  2. He'll be in the library looking for books in 616.8527 Later
  3. I'm an altruistic hedonist who will gladly exasperate you. Later
  4. According to SNY, Huasacar Brazobán has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and Justin Hagenman has been optioned. Later
  5. "Guys, if we win this game they'll fire me." Later
  6. Win one for the Gipper? Later
  7. Since you were talking about Leo, I think one of the "old time" managers would have given Alvarez the take sign on the first pitch, just to calm him down and force him to focus. Giving the take sign used to be common practice, but I'm not sure if it is done any more. Later
  8. Buckle your seat belts. This is going to be a bumpy ride. Later
  9. Also, what does it do to your actual Ace? In Sproat's next-to-last start in the minors, he came in after the "opener" and got his ass kicked (7ER). I'm not sure whether he, their Ace, prepared the same way he would have for an actual start and that's what impacted his performance. BTW - welcome Jadewi - good first post. Later
  10. That made me chuckle and think what two other managers of that era might have done. Earl Weaver would have waited for a three run homer and Gene Mauch would have done his usual unexpected and have the batter bunt for a base hit. Good analysis. Later
  11. In the predictions thread, I think someone predicted they would win 84 games*. They seem to be heading toward that kind of result. Later * = I predicted 82
  12. Many of those early Mets served in the Marine Corps Reserve. It was a way to keep them out of the Viet Nam era Army draft. RIP, Jim Semper Fi. Later
  13. And weather by the iconic weatherman Mr. G, who wasn't there last night because he was being honored for career achievements by a national weathercasting organization. Later
  14. San Fran is still the team that scares me. Later
  15. For us folks (like me) who don't get SNY on our cable provider, that is great news. Later
  16. I can still hear how announcers pronounced, or tried to pronounce, some of those names. One pronounced A-mal-uh-fa ta no - throwing in the extra syllable WOR sports announcer Stan Lomax said CAM-uh-lo (instead of Ca-meal-e-o) PAS-kul I'm guessing that Jim Kaat was the last on that list to retire as a player. Fun list. Thanks Later
  17. Sigh. RIP, Jim Later
  18. They were written - by the CPF-ers in the thread dedicated to him here: https://phpbb3.ultimatemets.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34766 They are from the heart. Later
  19. Seriously? Davey Johnson is given the AI treatment, just like any other passing baseballer? To us, he wasn't just like any other, and I find it demeaning to his legacy. That had no love in it, no humanity. We knew all that, or have read it in other obituaries. He was a real person, and his story deserved to be written by a real person. Later
  20. They said he was a Mets manager, but only said he won two world series as a player? How childish can they be. Who wrote/said that, Michael Kay? Later
  21. Your floppy is still functioning. You are correct, sir. Later
  22. From all-star second baseman, to being the first manager we heard about to use a PC , to the World Championship, he made a mark on the game. RIP Later
  23. SNY reporting that "Senga has agreed to be sent to the minors." Good move. Something needs fixing and this will give him a chance to fix whatever it is. Later
  24. But your slogan "ring the gong for Tong" has a better ring to it. (or is that redundant?) Later
