Supposedly this is the Yankees' new spring training cap.

Not even St. Derek could make this better. Though if you placed the cap on the ground between third and second if would have more range than Jeter did.

That said, I haven't seen the Mets new spring cap. Hopefully it's not this bad.

I'm sad that Mr. Met is being removed from the blue jerseys.

Wow!
A slap at Jeter. And a good one, too.
You have real potential.
Just a reminder. Please feel free to use "MFY" instead of the actual name of that team.

I like how someone said "we need to write 'SPRING TRAINING' on this so that everyone knows its just a March money grab in Florida and not part of the REAL YANKEE TRADITION [TM]"

If I want to see that team's hats, I'll just check out pictures of guys knocking over liquor stores on the TV news.

I wanna see this thing on someone. I feel like that brim would be almost camo on a real person.

I think this is something to be sold in the souvenir shops and not something to be worn on the field. They're selling them for each team -- you can guess what the Arizona caps look like -- and they're adjustable.

I actually kind of like that. If I can get to Florida in March I might snag one of those.

That Yankees thing, I think, is intended to be worn on the field!

I don't know how much say the individual teams have over the design of those ST caps. For the last several years, MLB has been supervising the design of the ST caps, implementing universal themes to be shared by all teams.

this is a pretty hat. it's like it was made specifically to look good with the mets colors. the other florida teams don't fare nearly as well, as the image inside the state-shape remains the same.

the SF-zona hat is also a thing of beauty.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I look at it and I see
Jimmy Buffet fans in a stooper singing Margarittaville!

They REALLY don't.

God, yes.

Please keep anything G-D Floridian away from my Mets gear. Kindly.

Actually, the MFY one has that certain kind of flat brim thug look to it.

It's a spring training souvenir, like a t-shirt. I like Florida!

I like Florida! I think it would make a great commonwealth, once it's been properly severed from the mainland and shunted off into the gulf!

The Yankees, back in the bidness of stockpiling DHs, have signed National League homerun champeen (and big time whiffer) Chris Carter.

He went for one year and $3 million, which is Fernando Salas munny, which tells you ... something.

It tells me that it's a lot less likely than we originally thought that anyone would want to take on $13 million for Jay Bruce.

The good news is that the Mets went ahead and spent $9 million on their bullpen after giving up on the idea (for now anyway) of trading Bruce. That means they were willing to expand their budget! (Take that, Howard Megdal!)

I know my post has nothing to do with the Yankees, but I don't give a shit about the Yankees! (Take THAT, Howard Megdal!)

He'll hit 60 HR's in that bandbox and still bat .210.

Well, he's pretty much limited to 1B and DH duty, so Bruce has that advantage for what it's worth. (Not $10 million, certainly.)

Is YSIII as advantageous for righthanded hitters as lefthanded hitters?

I don't see him getting fulltime duty so it'll be interesting.

American League teams have the advantage of not really having to worry about versatility on the bench. They need a backup catcher and utility guy, but the rest of their bench spots can go to batsmen.

I guess he'll compete for a platoon spot at 1B with LH-hitting Greg Bird whom the Yanx are trying to break into that spot after he missed all of 2016 with an injury.
They already signed Matt Holliday with the intention of making him pretty much their everyday DH and are trying to work Aaron Judge into their OF. Both Holliday and Judge, like Carter, hit RH

I had heard that Carter was looking towards Japan who usually seem to give chances to his type of slugger, but the fact that he took a relatively low deal with no guarantees of a spot or playing time means either the JPL offers weren't there or that he really dislikes sushi.

If nothing else, the Yanqui are going to have a bunch of beefy guys in their corner OF/1B/DH spots
Holliday = 6' 4" / 240
Carter = 6' 4" / 245
Judge = 6' 7" / 275
Bird = 6' 4" / 220

I may not want to fight any of those guys but I'd bet I could beat one or maybe all of them in a foot race despite the fact that most are around half my age.

latest data is from 2015.

for lefties, and homers, it's tied for the easiest park with Coors and Camden

for righties, and homers, it's 9th, still fairly home-friendly but not as extreme.

Even if he's surplus, he may end up being a hell of an end-of-bench asset. Tradeable surplus, even.

I mean, TELL me he's not a terrible end-of-bench option. Wilmer's making $2.2M, and that's via arbitration. Hell, that's half of last year's DeAza money.

I didn't realize he was that big. I always got the impression he was one of those slim, wiry players.

There have been two Chris Carters—both profiling as big-hacking sluggerinos who made their share of wind.

In fact, the best player from my town when I was a kid was an all-hit, no-field slugger named Chris Carter, who led our village to (I think) our only Little League World Series appearance. Topped out in college though, and I don't think he was drafted.

Is this going to be our 2017 Yankees thread or do we have another?
