Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 I like it when I wake up to news that the Yanx lost their late game out on the left coast.Wednesday I knew they had jumped out to a 4-0 1st inning lead vs the Angels so it was nice to learn the next morning that they wound up on the short end of a 7-5 score. And now I get to read today that last night in Oakland they somehow found a way to lose despite scoring 3 times in the 6th and then once each in the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th.It doesn't erase three DL assignments in a 24 hour span or that we have Scherzer, Strasburg, and Kershaw to face over the next four days with a patchwork team ... but it's something.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 After taking the first game of their seven game west coast road trip, the Yanx dropped the final six in Anaheim & Oakland. They weren't getting killed in the games -- lost by 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, and 1 including twice via walk-offs -- but 1-6 is 1-6 no matter how you slice it and they lost several of those after holding leads. Also it's not like the A's and Angels are world beaters these days, and Tanaka continues to get raked.Sawx can tie them for the AL East lead if they beat Houston tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 The Yanx version of the hot young SS prospect -- Gleyber Torres, part of the Chapman booty from last year's deadline deal with the Cubs -- is out for the remainder of the season and probably some of next year too due to impending TJ surgery. It's on his non-throwing arm so that may shorten the rehab some and not kill his chances at a career on the far side of the diamond. But the unusual part of the whole thing is that he tore theligament via a slide into home. I don't think I've ever heard of that before as the cause of a torn elbow UCL
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Weird. I'd hate to think of the riot if Rosario went down like that (knocking formica).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I enjoy little more than watching Tyler Clippard get lit up, especially when brought in to preserve a come-from-behind tie.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Damn, I didn't see that inning. The Angels hit for the cycle while scoring 3 in the 7th, all but the single off of Clippard. That's now seven in a row, and all against LAA (4) & OAK (3)
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 And the Yanks have fallen out of first for the first time in quite a while.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Yanx release 1B/DH Chris Carter, completing his < one year fall from NL HR champ to FA afterthought to now unemployed baseball player. A .204/.286 BA/OBA w/70 K in 167 ABs will do that to a guy. They brought him on late in the winter for low money fearing that oft-injured Greg Bird might not be able to answer the bell. Well Bird hasn't been able to play but Carter's been so bad that they dumped him mid-stream anyway and have brought up a minor leaguer to try there instead.Yanx about to go down to the stRangers 8-1 (and there they go!). It was close until the Yanx played the Tyler Clippard card in the 8thThe only NYY run was on a Judge HR (26).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 The Yankees currently have three guys named Tyler on the big league roster. MAKE IT STOP!!The latest Tyler to join them is Ty Webb. I'll have the Wifey Watch office look into whether he's linked to anybody named Lacey Underall.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Yanx fought back from 7-0 down to get to 7-6Judge singled w/2 outs in the 9th to bring up Gary Sanchez ... who K'd to end the game. That's now 10 losses in 12
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 At this rate they're going to get that draft pick we want. What else could go wrong today?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Yanx lose 4-3 to the ChiSox on a two-run, two-out walk-off single.Sox scored one in the 8th then the two in the 9th despite getting just one hit thanks to 6 MFY walks plus a HBP plus a Wild Pitch -- Domingo German, Clippard, and Bettances were the culprits. And I see where it took Jacoby Ellsbury until his 2nd day off the DL to get on base his favorite way, via catcher interference; aka: hitting the catcher's glove with his swing. In doing so he tied Pete Rose for the obscure all-time lead with 29 although Ellsbury racked his up in less than 1/3 the number of ABs as Pete. This latest "accident" came with two outs and one on in the top of the 9th and almost led to a tack-on run by the Yanx but Headley K'd with 2 on to end the inning. In 2016 alone Ellsbury reached this way 12 times and it's his 3rd already this season despite less than 150 ABs. I'm not sure the rest of the league combined has totaled that many.If I were the Sox today I'd drill him. "You wanna get on base that bad chump? ... Well then here ya go!"
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I can't keep all the Chris Carters and Chris Youngs from conflating.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 So there was a classic John Sterling last night on Aaron Judge's 5th inning AB:Deep to left. It is high, it is far, it is GONE!! Aaron Judge has just hit his twenty- ... Wait, he caught that?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 On a more serious note, MFY outfielder Dustin Fowler suffered a knee injury in the first inning of his Major League debut Thursday night against the Chicago White Sox when he collided with a wall in right field trying to track down a fly ball. Fowler suffered an open rupture of the patella in his right knee and has already undergone surgery.http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-dustin-fowler-moonlight-graham-20170630-story,amp.htmlI hope the Adrenalin from playing in his first major league game kept the pain level down. Sounds bad.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 For the moment that kid is in a Moonlight Graham type of situation, he gets credit for appearing in a game but never got to bat.The injury occurred in the bottom of the 1st and he was due to lead off in top 2.Now he's supposedly a decent prospect so you figure he'll get another chance down the road (though almost certainly not this year) but of course nothing is guaranteed. The Yanx also changed their minds on Chris Carter and have re-picked him up just days after releasing him.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Frayed Knot wrote:The Yanx also changed their minds on Chris Carter and have re-picked him up just days after releasing him. That's because Tyler Austin is on the 10-day DL with a hamstring injury.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Funnily enough, Fowler was one of the targets mentioned in this odd little clip about potentially interesting Mets-Yanks trades.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Holy shit, it's like ten minutes or more since the GS and the Brews are still batting in the 7th.Now 9-4 and 2 on.P.S. the Yanx have 4 runs on 3 hits but with the help of [u:3cg4adjq]Five[/u:3cg4adjq] Brewer errors!!RF Domingo Santana has two of them leading Michael Kay to suggest that Santana has to change his E-9 ways.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Baseball is like this now. Close games turn into blowouts real fast, because it's suddenly a much steeper downward curve going from pitchers who can get outs with any consistency in this environment to pitchers who can't.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Frayed Knot wrote: RF Domingo Santana has two of them leading Michael Kay to suggest that Santana has to change his E-9 ways. Not bad. Did he add "baby"?Which reminds me, Chris Berman will no longer be doing the BACK BACK BACK at the home run contest at the All Star game. Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Not bad. Did he add "baby"?No, but the latest MFY try at 1st base (now that they've DFA'd Chris Carter for the second time in two weeks) is Korean Ji-Man Choi, and when he HR'd (because every player the Yanx bring up homers in their first game) John Sterling gave him a double-call, declaring: Oh Ji-Man, you're a He-man ... Oh Choi, Oh Boy!Which reminds me, Chris Berman will no longer be doing the BACK BACK BACK at the home run contest at the All Star game. And here I was thinking that there was no hope left in the world.Actually, the HR Derby was really the perfect event for Berman; an event full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. iow, Noise for the sake of noise which was pretty much his speciality.

Well, I may try watching the HR Derby this year. I lost interest years ago, in large part due to Berman's insufferable verbal diarrhea.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Clint Frazier just hit a 3-run walkoff for the MFYs. Sterling: "Oh that Fraz-yuh! Will amaze ya!"
