Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Picking up from the other thread, these are some of the more evocatative names to be found on 70s baseball cards. In this category, I have to leave off good Metly names (sorry, Nino Espinosa and Brock Pemberton) and many common Met opponents (Ivan DeJesus, not your day) because familiarity robs them of their exoticism. So my list probably leans heavily toward American Leaguers.Kurt BevacquaJohn BocabellaLyman BostockTom HilgendorfSixto LezcanoLynn McGlothenRoger MetzgerGeorge MitterwaldJohn MontefuscoBlue Moon OdomNyls NymanBiff PocarobaChuck ScrivenerJohn WockenfussYou couldn't help finding these guys in your pack and saying, "Wonder what his deal is."
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I remember as a young card collector obsessing over odd-named fellows like Joe DeSa and Bryan Clutterbuck (who was nicknamed "Clutterbutt" in my old flipping days) and Jaime Cocanower.Gary Gray, Ed Ott... there were a bunch in the 80s.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 But the real entertainment value in the football card was hair. That and squinty, uncomfortable, and really unfortunate portraits. You know they never took a second shot with football cards.
