Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Five and a third and 92 pitches ... and done. This is not going to be easy lead to hold.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 The Cardinals quickly tie it up in the bottom of the inning. Still threatening to take the lead.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Did you all catch Zeile's story about how he was "persona non grata" in St. Louis? It began with Gary's shock that Zeile had never been to this version of Busch Stadium (and it had been something like 23 years since Zeile was last at Busch II). Todd said the Cards ran his ass out of town for being a "troublemaker" because he was the St. Louis union rep, but said they've recently started to invite him to alumni stuff. He didn't necessarily sound thrilled about that development. The Cardinal Way, everyone!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1 Posted April 1 The Cards have gone to the Stanek Well one time too many here.

Mendoza doesn't strike me as the kind of manager who can even confess to there being a problem. His approach is all about propping up his guys in hopes that they have the ability to figure it out themselves.

See also: the third-base debacle on Sunday, and Centerfield’s point about Mendoza not just saying “it was a mistake to send him.” If the offense starts hitting to potential then these smaller issues might not get much attention but unless a lot of bats wake up quickly, this could get ugly.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Strike 3 there to Semien wasn’t a strike and…oops, we have no challenges. Not good
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Good call by Zeile stating that the best time to run on Stanek is when he is ahead in the count because he often throws the splitter in the dirt. Next pitch with 1-2 count Stanek bounces a splitter. In the dirt. Meanwhile, Semien strikes out. Alvarez gets 1st on catchers interference. Robert now in scoring position. The Mets need a hero here to drive him in and break this deadlock.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Pinch hitting Benge to provoke the change to a lefty is an odd choice when Taylor could instead face a tiring Stanek.

But it kind of jibes with the Lunchbucket thesis of propping guys up in the hope that they can figure it out for themselves.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I suppose I was being polite when I called it an “odd” choice and not “the wrong” choice.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Mets better score soon as it’s Weaver for the 8th, Williams for the 9th, and then Lovelady for extras. MFS62 1

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Top of the order for the Mets. Time to wake up the bats and score some. At least Soto gets a plate appearance, which is good since he pretty much is the offense.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1 Posted April 1 5 minutes ago, whippoorwill said: What’s wrong with Jeith? Keith has a disc pinched in his back, giving him some pain and cutting off some function in his leg. He was talking about it yesterday and expects to be fine, but wasn't looking forward to flying, also describing that it was interfering with more everyday stuff like negotiating stairs. So I imagine getting treatment sooner rather than later spared him some difficulty.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1 Posted April 1 They could and probably should pinch-run for Polancky, but Jared Young is the only option. (Unless you want to use Nolan McLean.)

There were two issues with Zeile and the Cardinals that soured the relationship. in 1994 he lost a contentious arbitration hearing in which the Cardinals used his defensive struggles at third base against him, not acknowledging they moved him there and had him learn on the job. In 95, Zeile contended the team withdrew a contract extension offer after he injured a thumb in spring training.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 This team sucks. Marcus Semien is worthless
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Semien just looks lost at the plate. This whole team looks discombobulated.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 At this point, I'd settle for combobulated. Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I think I might rather pitch to Pages than Walker.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 1 Posted April 1 It's 2026 and I can't believe how crappy the green screen tech for the ads behind home plate still are. Devin Williams head partially disappears every time his head moves. Kids making garbage TikTok videos have more video production skills.
