Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 21 of the next 28 games for the Mets are against contending teams including the Yankees, Dodgers, and a metric shitton of games against our main division rivals, the Braves. After September 1st, the Mets schedule gets much softer with most games against bottom feeders except for 3 against the Brewers and 3 against the Braves. So these next 28 games are really going to be a time for the Mets to prove their, uh, mettle.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2022 Author Posted August 4, 2022 Loving the optimism here! Feel free drop the specific number of wins you think the Mets will get in this thread.I'm going with 18.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 1717 out of 28 is a 98-win pace over 162. i'm ok with that.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 My heart says 28, but my head says 20.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Put me down for 16. I'd be quite happy with that.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Benjamin Grimm wrote:Put me down for 16. I'd be quite happy with that.Same here. 16-12 in that stretch feels okay.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 Good thing no one voted for the two bottom choices.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 There's something a bit wild about the low expectations. I mean, overall we've been over .650, we're hot as hell, we're healthy for the first time all year, we've got our two aces back pitching lights out, but we're steeling ourselves against a mild collapse for the most part. I get the reasoning, but it still seems odd to me.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 =nymr83 post_id=103554 time=1660341232 user_id=54]A (gambling-oriented) article in the Athletic recently posited that the Mets have had some batted ball luck this year and that the Braves have in fact played better.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2022 Author Posted August 18, 2022 At the halfway mark, the Mets are at 10-4, and thus on pace for a 20-8 stretch! The four people who selected 13-16 wins are almost certainly going to be wrong, but I'm sure they'll be okay with that.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 13-6 as we are around 2/3's of the way through this stretch and heading into the Subway Series. The Yankees have a winning percentage of .607 which is still very good but quite a falling off from the .660 they had when I started this thread.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 (edited) Per Tankathon, the Mets have the easiest schedule in the NL the rest of the way. Yes, you gotta take 'em one at a time. Yes, on any given day. Yes, each game starts 0-0.https://www.tankathon.com/mlb/remaining_schedule_strengthhttps://www.tankathon.com/mlb/remaining_schedule_strength Edited August 22, 2022 by Guest
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 16 of the last 39 games are against last-place teams. I'll take that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 And yet, I remember those seasons when it would be tight towards the wire and Met fans would say, 'Eh, don't worry, we've got those two late series against the Marlins'.How'd those work out?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2022 Author Posted August 22, 2022 Actually, I remember fans saying things like “Oh shit, we're facing the last place Marlins who are starting a 31-year-old rookie. We're doomed!”
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 The Mets head into their final stretch of their toughest month with a 16-9 record. They have a chance to add up to three more wins, but they will be against the best team in baseball. I could say it's good news that Jacob deGrom is starting one of these games, but that may just end up being a night that the offense feels like it doesn't need to hit.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I said 19-9 which would require a sweep of the hated Dodgahs which I would be 100% happy with.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 I'm down with that.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 By the way, the Mets winning percentage over the last 25 games is .640 which is slightly better than their winning percentage for the season so far of .636.
