metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 damn, i'm pretty happy about this. which means... well... it's the mets so. but anyway, i'm pretty happy about this!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Positively Randy Johnsonian (or Carlos Beltranian) with the value he added after being dealt at the deadline in his walk year.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I can live with three years. There will be a decline, but 'Ground Zero' for him is high enough that, barring any shoulder-shredding injuries that render him unusable (see: Santana, Johan), his reduced self should still be purdy darn good.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 At that total comes to $13,541.67.Per pitch.Assuming he makes 32 starts a season and averages 100 pitches per game.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 With the pickups of Canha, Escobar, Marte and now Scherzer, everybody talks about that they're 'good clubhouse guys'. The comment was specifically made that Scherzer wouldn't have put up with the 'thumbs down' fiasco last year. So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 the 'good clubhouse' stuff is mostly nonsense. People don't really know. Just like there was plenty of talk that Max didn't want to come to NY, that he wanted to pitch on the west coast, etc. It's all just people guessing for content.Anyhow, here's Max from the Citi Field ASG parade. Or there would be, if this garbage forum software let you upload pictures bigger than the average digital camera from 2002. It's on my Twitter if you want it.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 You can always just embed the tweet.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Max has a deranged winning-over-everything persona that is hopefully less raccoon red-assery and more like dudes just afraid of putting in less than he does. I'm sure we'll see a bit of a decline, but I'm really stoked on his acquisition.

So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. It's often said that the every-fifth-day guys can't really be club leaders but there are exceptions and his rep is that he's been one of them.An intense SOB while on the mound, he obviously tones it down on his off days but only to a degree and it tends to rub off on the other pitchers but also on the rest of the cast. Nobody is a miracle worker in this sort of stuff but it's better to be at least part of the solution rather than one adding to whatever problems crop up.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 yaeh, but I was too annoyed to go fetch my tweet, and I didn't always tweet what I wanted earlier. But I guess the lesson is: Tweet stuff first.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I just thought was a good workaround for the forum's limitations.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Is he the first pitcher to become a Met after no-hitting the Mets? I think so.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 What not to like or love? That they brought in four guys who are 32 or older speaks to a win now roster build. On Max's worst day he is likely better than the Mickey Lolich the Mets got late in his career.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 So who gets the Opening Day start if everybody's healthy: deGrom or Scherzer? All things equal, I guess deGrom. He has seniority.

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Interesting point on the Jomboy podcast. They think Boras/Scherzer did spend the night trying to get the Westies to bite. They also said that as a union leader, Max wasn't in a position to take a lower offer just to be out west, especially when the Mets were willing to break records.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Schererville is a big union guy so probably felt as though he was obligated to put the aav above his working address moreso than other guys. I think the same dynamic played out with Glavine to the Mets
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Can't wait to hear Mex on "Mets to the Max with Max to the Mets."Also on Mex's thoughts on Matz, of course, leaving the Mets while acquiring Max,
