A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Yall see this? Apparently a handful of teams are gonna do the same. Wonder if the Mets are gonna be there? Guessing not since we know the blacks are gonna show up again this year but who knows.https://www.mlb.com/news/red-sox-release-patriots-day-inspired-city-connect-uniformshttps://www.mlb.com/news/red-sox-release-patriots-day-inspired-city-connect-uniformshttps://twitter.com/RedSox/status/1379437682607206402?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1379437682607206402%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mlb.com%2Fnews%2Fred-sox-release-patriots-day-inspired-city-connect-uniformshttps://twitter.com/RedSox/status/1379437682607206402?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1379437682607206402%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mlb.com%2Fnews%2Fred-sox-release-patriots-day-inspired-city-connect-uniforms
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 The Mets should do this too and wear uniforms with the official NYC colors. Can you imagine? The Mets wearing blue and orange.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 I'm guessing MFY will get one just because. Since these are basically MLB's version of the NBA City Edition, I'm guessing some schlocky Bronx Bombers uniform, or since Sky Blue FC rebranded to Gotham FC, maybe the unoriginal Yankees steal that.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 saw someone theorize that the black might just be part of this, and not an independent decision by any means. Fits with Cohens style of playing coy and promising things that are already happening.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Am I not getting the joke? Those are fugly.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I don't get it either. I suppose those jerseys are supposed to mean something, but whatever it is, I have no idea.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I wouldn't wear that if I were in a dimly lit room playing solitaire.But in front of a crowd and a TV audience?What were they thinking?Later
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 The Red Sox uniforms are the colors of the Boston Marathon and uses the same font as Boston Marathon branding. They will be worn on Patriots Day weekend which in non-pandemic years is when the Marathon is run. My son has already requested that I buy him the hat, so they're hitting their target audience of young baseball fans.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 It's supposed to honor the Boston Marathon, which takes its color scheme from the city flag.Though I'd be fine without I don't immediately hate these as a thing. MLB has already done worse things with the "Players weekend" series and we know its all about the $$. They obvs are not Red Sox jerseys but they don;t look bad to me.The Mets one should incorporate that fresh shade on maroony-pink-purple from the 7 train

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Yup. I'm totally into them. I may have told ya that the local soccer pro shop 2 blocks away is making their gear in the basement. No kits yet as they have a deal with Spanish outfitter Joma who's been challenged to import guy says. Also COVID set their debut back till next year Edited April 6, 2021 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I always thought a fun once-a-year look would be to stylize your uniform after that of your sibling franchises — such as the Jets or the Isles in the Mets' case.MLB could even do NFL weekend and there would be awesome controversy over some sad-sack team forced to partner with a fake sibling. Like the Cubs' uniforms would be stylized on the Bears colors and brand, but the poor White Sox would be rocking the Saints' fleur-de-lis or something.

I think the whole league has gone Puma now, so any different kit maker usually means a standout (if nothing else "different") design.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I want a uniform with neon stripes on it to bring to life the figures that were on the outside of Shea Stadium.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I have tons of friends who have run the Boston Marathon and I still totally missed that reference. Maybe because most of the Boston swag I've seen is blue accented with yellow and not the other way around. I think it's also usually a darker or more royal blue than this. So in that sense it seems like a big ol whiff to me.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 apparently Mets are not part of this series but will wear their blacks when they face the Marlins who are.

(I wouldn't mind us going with something street-art themed, or something bold and aesthetically boss that acknowledges the multiethnic stomping grounds-- South/Central American Corona, East Asian Flushing-- we've got flanking the stadium.)
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Kinda' retro, but I wouldn't mind the Unisphere dominating the Mets version of these shirts.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I wouldn't mind the Unisphere being moved to Citi Field's campus.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 It's very nice where it is. A little more unity between the fairgrounds and the park would be nice but you got the tennis stadium and a big railyard between em.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Ugly, if not fugly, Boston unis pictured above. Horrid, even.

I just don't like the cycle of neglect and rehabilitation it goes through. Maintenance. And I'm also covetous for cool things going to the Mets. And I always liked the Mets home's link to the World's Fair development, even knowing what I now know about the park and fair being one more Robert Moses debacle.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 The fact that the park was built surrounded by freeways - a very Moses design - contributes to the inconsistent maintenance, imho.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Last time I was there, the park was very nice and didn't notice any major maintenance issues.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I bike by the unisphere a lot. Here she is showing off her South America a weeks ago.http://www.beta.mbtn.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/20210320_141120.jpg>
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Just work the old patch into a uni concept. Change the slogan. It's got the Mets/NY colors built in.[FIMG=333]https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/373105255044_/1964-NEW-YORK-METS-Shea-Stadium-WORLDS-FAIR.jpg[/FIMG]

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 It's a nice throwback. So are our current uniforms (not saying/just saying). If you're going to do something new, do something new.
