Totally agree. But if I named the thread the Bauer and Syndergaard douchebag thread, youse would revolt. Besides, now we can sign Syndy what with all the money that was saved that almost sent Cohen to the poorhouse in his foolish (/rollseyes sarcastically) attempt to sign Bauer.

On another note, Bauer's average Bill James game score for his 12 starts from 2020 season was 69. Apropos of another discussion we had, I'm pretty certain, though not 100% positive, that Syndergaard never had a 12 game stretch where his average BJGS was 69. I did a quick check.

Oh, an agenda. Got it.

No idea. Not even a fraction of an idea. May I buy a vowel?

Syndergaard's first tweet was genuinely funny.

Bauer cannot take a joke and is a hypocrite

Sydergaard does post way too many shirtless photos not to be catching shit of his own.

Neither guy is an angel

Bad behavior by Noah and Bauer on twitter.

I learned by 1/6/21 that twitter is not good for much of anything, much less settle a dispute.

You cannot engage Bauer and come out on top.

This is the bad (very bad) Syndergaard tweet:

“show [my shirtless pic] to your wife,” [syndergaard] wrote. “Guaranteed she wouldn't want to me to put a shirt on… you might actually get laid bc of that but she'll be thinking of me.”

I'll take "Things Bartolo Colon never tweeted" for $400, Ken.

Like JCL said, the first tweet was a zing-y, good-natured troll job. Bauer's response was to mine Syndergaard's timeline on another social-media app-- or, rather, to pull out something he'd PREVIOUSLY mined much earlier, according to the apparent timestamp-- for something objectionable... which is at least as cringeworthy in and of itself as Thor's doofy machismo. Also... considering his long history of being a variegated ass on Twitter, it seems like a pretty questionable decision.

Y'know, like getting superpissy over something ELSE, a day afterward. https://defector.com/trevor-bauer-in-more-and-somehow-even-dumber-words-all-lives-matter/With ANOTHER Met pitcher. (BONUS: Extremely roundabout "All Lives Matter!")

"Homie"?

Man, I hope they let pitchers bat forever.

I don't think he's an absolutely irredeemable, awful human. But he definitely doesn't seem inclined toward self-reflection, and he positively REEKS of overpraised-as-a-child. I think he really, really thinks he's being subtle with shit like this.

Some people, when plopped into insanely-complicated social milieu-- online subcultures, bustling marketplaces in foreign countries, arcane-industry workplaces-- just get the basics of what's going on, almost-innately, and with a hefty soupcon of close listening. Others read the literature, slam the audiobooks, and otherwise try really, really hard... to varying effect. Trevor? Well, he works hard. I just think that-- as much as he puts time into this-- he's TERRIBLE at this online thing.

A problem with learning how to behave online is the historical utter lack of consequences.

Trevor, yeah, doesn't seem to know a lot about consequences.

I'm glad we didn't sign Bauer. The New York media would be constantly be trying to provoke him, and he clearly can't resist taking the bait. It would be one thing after another.

If I'm the manager I'm already calling a moratorium on responding to Bauer in any public way. Take the high ground and focus on baseball.

I have to think that putting Bauer and Stroman in the same rotation would have been toxic from day 1. It's possible that Bauer and Syndergaard could have come to an uneasy truce, but even that is not a guarantee. And we're three days into spring training. And there is no way Bauer could avoid (assuming he'd even try) getting in the spotlight of the New York media. It would have been a circus. Hell, it could still be a circus and he is not even here.

I think it can be argued that online douchiness in fact raised Bauer's profile to an extent, and is reflected in the millions he's earning. If you have the goods, and your self-promotion helps to make the case you do, there's little that can't be gotten away with. The message is, I'm so fucking great at what I do I can be a dick

Yes, that phenomenon has given us a presidency. And every school playground bully has his batch of retainers, who line up behind him to enjoy a small piece of his power.

There's never a shortage of little dicks who want to be a part of big dick's dick army.

And maybe I'm seeing a pattern where there is none, but Cincinnati seems to have a history stretching way back of being the town where pitchers launch a second career playing the heel.

Bronson Arroyo, Endison Volquez, The Nasty Boys, Pedro Borbon, Aroldis Chapman, Aaron Harang.

Now the latest is Piss Missile Pete dumping his social media accounts. I feel like we need a thread just to keep up with the various dramas of Instagrab and Twatter and how these guys manage to consistently punch themselves in the crotch, virtually speaking.

The vibe I get from Bauer is that he would make life difficult for everybody, but he'd be particularly difficult towards Stroman and Stroman wouldn't sit there quietly and take it (nor would I want him to). In hindsight, I could have written what I said much better.

I think they are arguing about politics on Twitter and it went bad.

Which is surprising because usually talking politics online is so productive.

I'm blocked by Stroman, which is odd because I've been very positive about him, and I avoid anything Bauer posts.
