Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Ken Rosenthal had a column in the Athletic explaining it. Administrative leave is not disciplinary, the player continues to get paid, no impact to service time accrual, etc. He just doesn't play. The player also gets to request an immediate (within 24 hours) hearing for reinstatement. The union could still probably file a grievance if they wanted (especially if missing a start contributed to missing a performance incentive, eg. innings pitched or number of games started) but they're less likely to win since it was a Commissioner action, not a team action.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 I just realized that he took a shorter-term, higher-annual-vaule deal because he thought his market leverage would be better in a few years. Even if he collects on this deal, that's it, right? That decision cost him, what, another $200 million?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Well, we're referring to administrative leave here, and not criminal punishment, but sure.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 And not signing Norihiro Nakamura.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Not a big Rojas fan, but that answer was pitch-perfect.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 The "Administrative Leave" for Bauer has been extended from the initial seven days to an additional seven days.

As they should.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Former LAD Dave Stewart doesn't think the team has gone far enough so he is boycotting the planned 40 year celebration of the 1981 championship.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Author Posted July 8, 2021 Dave Stewart's line sums it up best:"[Even if] it was consensual ... what kind of person would ever do that?"https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2021/07/05/former-dodger-dave-stewart-livid-handling-trevor-bauer-case/7865597002/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2021/07/05/former-dodger-dave-stewart-livid-handling-trevor-bauer-case/7865597002/
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 I have no intention of not letting Dave Stewart get the moral high ground, but holding up the 1981 Dodgers as models is probably going to muddy the subject more than is necessary. Also, I'm not sure hanging today's Dodgers out to dry is the move to make either. Maybe the team let MLB take initiative with disciplinary matters, but that probably was the more expedient way to go. It's not like they pitched him in the interim. What's a more interesting matter than Stew's involvement is that LAPD has indicated that it's turned into an expanding investigation, which leads me to suspect that either a ring has been uncovered or there are other victims or both.I tend to suspect as well that Baueroutage has pitched his last game in 2021 — whether being kept from playing by the Dodgers or by the league. If and when he returns, and if and when he nonetheless collects on his contract are further matters that will keep lawyers busy, as are the potential criminal charges, but I sincerely hope the curtain has fallen on his 2021.

Steve and Sandy tried really hard but Bauer was just using them as leverage against the Dodgers. Lucky for us.

But still a deeply fucked up guy.I don't know. I get the two consenting adults thing, but even if a woman asks to be beaten to that extent, you don't do it.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 I agree. He's contending that the injuries she presented were not of his doing.(I'm not sure how far you can watch with such a nauseating guy, but he addresses the facts starting about 2:50. It's all pretty gross. "I never punched this woman in the face. I never punched her in the vagina.")
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Bauer is now suing the woman. pretty standard he-said she-said stuff just like before. Biggest thing I learned from his complaint is that she was apparently not just a 'random person' but a baseball groupie - she had previously had sex with Fernando Tatis (junior i assume)

When (IIRC)Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays were "out of baseball" for their association with a casino, was that considered a suspension?Later
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Bauer is certainly going to appeal, and may well sue MLB as well. It could well be that they are starting here expecting that it could be “settled” for something less.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I'd be surprised if he didn't sue.Trevor Bauer IS a douchebag, but MLB's disciplinary process is something far less than transparent. On the other hand, courts are typically inclined to keep their hands off if the process is part of the collective bargaining agreement. Who knows what's in the fine print — of the CBA and of his contract?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 Wow. Surprised MLB came in that heavy. I'm sure it'll be settled for less, but still....Not that he's not a scumbag and doesn't deserve it.
