Sounds logical if they are in the market for another starter. He and Odorizzi are the two remaining decent ones still available.

Let me see if I follow this: youse are all high on Taijuan Walker who pitched a total of 67 innings over the last three years combined but can't stop bitching that Trevor Bauer may have been brilliant in 2020, but only over 12 starts. Is that it? And youse can't wait to re-sign Noah Syndergaard even though he never had a 12 start stretch even remotely as good as Bauer's 2020, and as between Bauer and Syndergaard, only one of those two is guaranteed to miss at least half the 2021 season, and only one of those two is coming off of Tommy John surgery where there's a chance he might not even be as good as he used to be anymore.

I wouldn't characterize your post as representative of my position but Syndergaard had runs comparable to Bauer's 2020. It's likely been a while, but he's totally been in that stratosphere for stretches that long.

For the record, I want the Mets to sign Conforto and Lindor now, and hold off on Syndergaard. See how he pitches. If he does well, and he's open to negotiating before free agency, then talk to him. If not, let him test the market.

Maybe I'd be in for a year on Walker, but BMLs point on his health is a very valid one (and he wasn't all that durable before then, either).

Mets have a deal with Walker. No details yet.

Seems like he's not a frontline guy. But has upside. Better than Matz!

Walker, a Diamondbacks starting pitcher who loves to cook, took a recipe passed down by his mom, Nellie Garcia, and gave it his own twist. Garcia was on hand, as well, as her son shared his recipe with fans and friends.

The first fan in line was Owen Fitzgerald, following by his dad, Eamon. Both went with the bison tacos, which are Walker's specialty.

“That was his recommendation. They're great – you have to go with his recommendation when he's the chef,” Fitzgerald said. The two were visiting from Redding, Calif., and are Athletics fans, but the tacos certainly won them over.

The majority of the patrons at the taco truck were Diamondbacks fans, who found the chance to meet players a bonus on top of the free food.

"We love the D-Backs. It's really nice that they would could out and spend time with the fans like this," said Robert Owen-Jones, a fan from Tempe.

“They're even feeding Colorado Rockies fans, which is nice,” he joked.

All about depth. deGrom, Carrasco, Stroman, Peterson, Lucchesi, Walker, Yamamoto, Syndergaard mid-season. Keep piling them up, says I.

Great. Now the Mets can put out an eight-man rotation. Who needs Bauer?

Walker is a good signing. He'd be the 4th best starter on the team if he is healthy. If not, at least they won't be relying on Robert Gsellman, Walter Lockett, Wilmer Font, Corey Oswalt, and Chris Felexen to make starts this year. The depth is adequate for the first time in a few years.

This. Better to have too many starters than too few.

When Rojas said in a presser yesterday that the Mets might use an "opener" this year, I shuddered.

Opener is a euphemism for "we don't have enough starters".

Hay Man was arguing just yesterday on the Twitter that the Mets ought to have gone for Odorizzi on the basis that he'd be "better able to handle New York."

Whatevs. As someone mentioned above, better than Matz to which I strongly agree and can only add "not nearly as solid as Zack Wheeler."

Yeah I'm fine with Taijuan Walker as our #4 or #5 when Noah is back and I'm fine with him next year, too. And, yes, I'm really happy the Mets do have an "8-man rotation". Like more than 5 capable starters is a bad thing. The Dodgers have been doing it for years and when a guy got hurt, there was Rich Hill. And when Rich Hill got hurt, here's Julio Urias. And if someone else got hurt, they'd plug in Ross Stripling.

The Mets have had bodies to shuffle in and out, but I rarely had confidence in any of those spot starters. We'll see if Yamamoto or Luccesi instill that same confidence, but at least they've been doing it. In '19, the Pads ran out Joey 30 times, and the Marlins gave Yamamoto 15 starts, of basically league average work and that's probably ok for spot starts, I think.

Taco time! Call me an http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30066early adopter.

on a more serious note, i was hoping, given the options remaining on the table, that they would go after either walker or odorizzi. so i'm pretty cool with this move.

Same. I do wonder what they saw in Odorizzi, since he seemed to be the one player this offseason they were never even rumored to be "in on."

Oh man. Sorry. Completely missed your thread.

It's funny that Walker is being compared to Bauer. They have similar career numbers, though Walker has an injury history. Both had 11 great starts in 2020 with peripherals suggesting that they were a bit lucky. Bauer's stretch was better, and Walker has never had a complete season as good as Bauer's 2018. But he comes at a fraction of the cost.

They have the best pitcher in baseball at 1. Currently two and eventually three guys who can pitch at a number 2 level. The others will make a strong 3 and 4.

Walker at 4, eventually five, and Peterson, Lucchesi and Dark Horse Darling Yamamoto. This is right up there as potentially one of the best rotations in baseball.

Ok. Now no one get hurt.
