I think this was sort of an open secret all off-season.



I remember him being much bigger than I thought he'd be. His face didn't look like a big guy's face, but one day I saw Luis Rojas out on the mound handing him the ball and talking to his chest. It like Terry Collins talking to Noah Syndergaard.

A google image search of "Jared Hughes" reveals some of the goofiest picture day portraits you'll ever see. Would love to see Jared v. Heath Bell in a bullpen-to-mound sprint-off.



Fun stuff aside, he was a very good Major League pitcher for a long time. Retires with a 137 ERA+ without anything you'd confuse for strikeout stuff. Hats off to ya, Jared.

The Hughes Corporation got his lone win as a Met in a game we saw earlier in the week, in that it was also http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=29647the game that Ali Sanchez gave us his lone Met hit.



You should know it at some level as it was game two of a doubleheader sweep of the Mets over the Yankees, with the Mets bizarrely serving as the home team despite playing at the Yankees' beloved as-seen-in-𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 ballpark.



I'd guess that it's the Mets first walkoff win on the road since ... I don't know. Benny Agbayani's eleventh-inning grand slam in the Tokyo Dome sure felt like a walkoff, but the Mets were serving as visitor in that game, and Armando still had to go out and finish the job.

I would think it would have to be the first and only walkoff win on the road; before 2020 the Mets never would have batted in the bottom of the inning in a road game.



I remember when the Mets got Jared Hughes, I thought, oooh, I hope he helps. But I recall nothing after that.



Because of the pandemic I watched the 2020 Mets more intently than usual, but it still wasn't enough for me to remember the contributions of journeymen players.

Well, I was thinking the Mets might have walked off while playing home team in Monterrey or something.

The only time the Mets ever moved a "home game" was for one game of the two played in Tokyo in 2000. Every other alternative site (Monterrey, San Juan, Willamsport) they were the road team.



Until, of course, the nutty 2020 season came along.

Jared Hughes is 6' 7", racked up ten years in the big leagues, all of it in the NL including his final run as a NYM, and I yet I somehow managed to have ZERO memory of him as a baseball player much less as a Met

Part of the product of bloated bullpens, expanded rosters, and frequent roster shufflings on the back end of said bullpens. Players pass through town and scarcely get a chance to leave an imprint, good or bad.



Of course, that's also a product of a strange, mostly farcical season played during multiple overlapping national emergencies.

The game celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Rockies debut game, which took place at Shea Stadium in 1993, with the Rockies, naturally, being the road team. Both teams wore 1993 throwbacks.

This, exactly. He pitched in nearly a third of our games and I don't remember a single appearance?

MINNEAPOLIS -- Aside from a few tweaks over the years, the script on the Mets' home uniforms have remained generally unchanged since 1962, the franchise's inaugural season.



However, there was a two-year period in which the home "Mets" underwent a relatively significant change -- the addition of a tail under the lettering.



The Mets will wear those distinctive uniforms on Tuesday against the Rockies, who are turning back the clock to their inaugural season in 1993.



The Mets hosted the Rockies 20 years ago for the first-ever game in franchise history, which is why the Rockies will wear their old road grays while the Mets will wear home whites even though the game is being played at Coors Field.



The Mets only wore the uniforms in 1993 and 1994 before returning to a more traditional script in 1995. Meanwhile, the Rockies' road uniforms featured the word "Rockies" until the club changed it to "Colorado" beginning in the 2000 season.
