  2. Well, when you put it in terms of wins and losses, no, it really doesn't look good. But it's really the thought that counts. The emotional wins.
  3. So obviously the problem is not that there's not enough switch-hitters, but too many switch-hitters.
  4. BOOM. DECLINE.
  5. I think *I* expected more from Wilmer, but he only got 300 ABs each of the past two seasons. I know he's not exactly a sabermetric darling, but he's above league-average, which is more than you can say for some guys.

Well that's just depressing when you put it that way. Mets put a lot of eggs in baskets expecting more out of d'arnot, Conforto, Flores and Lagares didn't they? d'Arnaud and Lagares, yes, I think we expected more. Conforto has been aces, honestly. Sure, he's had his moments, but he's still only like fourteen years old. I don't think they've ever expected Flores to do more than he has; he's never truly been given a starting role.
  8. Post-Draft Update: Majors: Tropeano (Angels): 3-3, 4.35 in nine starts. Koehler (Dodgers): On the 60 for now; should be back over the summer some time. Jankowski (Padres): .381/.389/.770 in 126 PA as he re-establishes himself on the big stage. Minors: Cantwell (AA Blue Jays): .293/.398/.439 as a teammate of Vlad Guerrero Jr. Zamora (AA Mets): 3.18 ERA in 22 2/3 innings as a lefty out of the pen in Binghamton. Pinto (? Indians): Selected in the 24th round. Honeyman (? Mariners): Selected in the 29th round. Indy: Tissenbaum (Quebec, Can-Am): Two hits in nine AB as the season gets underway. Campbell (Wichita, American Assoc): Six runs in 8 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Parenty (Schaumburg, Frontier): .292 (21-72) in 22 games. Krause (Rockland, Can-Am): .276 (21-76) with three home runs in 20 games.
  9. Interestingly, Book Revue called me tonight and said they *do*, in fact, have an autographed copy waiting for me. Good thing I didn't buy it yet. Also, holy crap, ABNS. That's hilarious.
  10. I'm glad he didn't get drafted.

Was If at First the one where he broke down 2 baseball games? how many damn books does Keith have? No, that was "Pure Baseball," which is also excellent. He's got those three addressed here, plus his children's book. That's it, I think.

  14. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Keith seems like a guy I wouldn't take to IRL, but I still love him for some reason. This. He *unquestionably* fails the "would I hang out with this person?" test. And yet...
  15. smg58 wrote: Smith's walk rate has gone up without a noticeable bump in his strikeouts; that he has a .357 OBP despite slumping is actually encouraging. The power has been absent, though. You wonder if he's nursing an injury, but then again a number of players (Herrera and Cecchini just off the top of my head) have struggled on a return trip to Vegas. It's worth wondering if that's a case of players getting discouraged, if it's a statistical fluke, or if there's something more to it than that. (Cecchini to his credit was swinging the bat well this year, but it seems to be the law for right-handed hitters in this organization to get hurt.) I think it's that they're playing *just* badly enough so they don't have to get called up. Because New York is hard, you know.
  16. Ceetar wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm telling you guys, they're waiting for David Wright to replace him. It's a weird Met thing. Ceetar deserves credit for this great idea but I'm acting like it's mine. David threw hard from 60 feet or something yesterday, so.. Which means he's *already* more qualified than anyone in our bullpen right now!
  17. bmfc1 wrote: Bruce reached the warning track. I mean, it was during jogging warmups before the game, not hitting a ball that far. But he'll hit a ball there eventually.
  18. bmfc1 wrote: In Round 19, the Mets drafted the son of the actor who played "Biff" in "Back to the Future"! http://www.fullertontitans.com/sports/m-basebl/2017-18/bios/wilson_tommy_6a68 That's actually kind of a neat factoid.

  20. Gene Rayburn: "The Mets are so bad" Audience: "HOW BAD ARE THEY?" Gene: "They've already been BLANKED for next season"
  21. My team has trouble with the longball - we don't hit enough, and we give up too many. Which is weird, because I've got sluggers; they're just not slugging. Stanton is hitting them, sort of, but Kris Bryant and Josh Bell aren't.
  22. bmfc1 wrote: Swarzek and Frazier return today. Who goes away? Bautista and Evans? Zager and Evans? I'd vote Reyes and Gerson, but Sandy never asks my opinion any more.
  23. Centerfield wrote: "We let Bellinger go and selected Joe Swinganmiss? How stupid!" Honestly, though, dude should *not* have chosen baseball as a career with a name like that.
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Grant Brisbee gave our pick a D. But in all fairness to Tommy Tanous, those rocs are quieter than you'd think, and grade out at, like, a 70 for speed, easy. RIP, Jarred.
  25. I love Straw's "nah, man, I'm cool, let me go NOPE JUST KIDDING I'MMA COME BACK AT YOU" moment at 3:30.
