  1. I think we were all kind of hoping that we were somewhere in Step IV and II right now. Yes, there are older pieces, but the rotation is/was young and exciting, there were young guys all up and down the lineup (Rosario, Nimmo, Dom, Conforto) who had potential to break out, stud in the middle (Yo), and complementary pieces around them (Frazier, Lagares, Cabrera). Part of the problem is none of those guys are/were "can't-miss" the way that the Harpers and Machados and Trouts and Acunas are, and the pitching is ephemeral, and Yo is dinged up, which means we're relying on Todd Frazier and Asdrubal Cabrera and Jason Vargas to lead us to the promised land.

Unquestionably, yes, but he doesn't seem to let it affect the product on the field. If Cashman goes to him and says "I need $400M for Harper" next off-season, he'll get it.

  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: When you said that Dom Smith was "on the way to Philly" I thought for a moment that he had been traded. Seriously. I was confused as to why were trading them to Philly for two guys we already had on the roster; then I re-read it and it made way more sense.
  7. Update time! Majors: Tropeano (Angels): 1-2, 3.42 in four solid starts. Pitches Saturday night. Koehler (Dodgers): On the 60 for now; should be back over the summer some time. Jankowski (Padres): 9-29 with two triples since being called up during the Mets series. Minors: Cantwell (AA Toronto): Has started to heat up; .319/.439/.426 in fourteen games, splitting time behind the plate. Zamora (AA Mets): Has only allowed one run in his last seven games after a rough start. Honahan (R MFYs): No assignment yet. Indy: Tissenbaum (Quebec, Can-Am): Doing some coaching at Stony Brook this spring, but will join Quebec next month. Campbell (Wichita, American Assoc): Signed for 2018; season starts next month. Parenty (Schaumburg, Frontier): Signed for 2018; season starts next month. Krause (Rockland, Can-Am): Released by the Pirates two weeks ago; season starts next week.

He was 8 and a big Met fan for the 2000 World Series. We went to the stupid Met-Yankee rally in Bryant Park. Most of the kids he knew were Yankee fans although his best friend was not a baseball fan. I do think being a Met fan in Yankee ascendant times teaches good lessons: the rich shouldn't have everything; gloating is obnoxious; be skeptical of idiot traditions. Being a Met fan builds character in a way that being a Yankee fan doesn't. He's not a real baseball fan anymore but is a good person -- he doesn't gloat, he is skeptical of idiot traditions, he was there at the beginning of Occupy Wall Street so he certainly isn't a fan of the rich. Your son will be fine, CF. LGM. This is it for me. There's a reason the quote says "rooting for the MFYs is like rooting for US Steel."

I thought this was hilarious, and was the only time I remember him showing any semblance of personality. He may be a jagoff, but he's from Groton. There's not nearly as much entitlement there, despite being a shoreline community. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Pretty much a jerkoff from day one. Loaded with bullshit bavado pretending to be heart and fire, a heavy cocaine user, fat, lazy, never got it any more than Lastings Milledge never got it but at least Milledge had the excuse of coming from a small town, fewer economic advantages, not especially steeped in baseball tradition. Harvey was the son of a baseball coach who went to a real university. screw this loser. Also, all of this. My memory, though, is WS Game 5, which was a microcosm of all things Harvey. Was absolutely electric for eight innings, but couldn't harness it enough to finish it out. Whether the loss is Terry's fault or his is debatable, but that night was magical for a while.

  12. G-Fafif wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Could this speculation have originated... here? There are also rumblings that Mets fans are as unhappy with the 2018 yearbook cover as they are with the players pictured on it, not to mention those whose pictures appear within the pages that follow. "Put up against 1962, when they lost 120 games, nobody chose it -- nobody," says a source familiar with Mets fan thinking. "Even that off-brand bilingual edition with Bonilla on it had more support." Harvey wasn't on the cover of the 2018 yearbook, but those on which he was pictured were hardly more popular. "It's a fact," one Mets fan said. "If Harvey had something to do with it, it didn't advance." BOC

  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: If it's Binghamton, Harvey and Tebow will probably go around singing Christmas carols door to door in their spare time and baking muffins for the local church. Yeah sure. Whats likelier to happen is that Tebow will end up mainlining heroin directly into his eyeballs. They should not only send him to Binghamton, but make him and Tebow share an apartment and livestream the whole damn time.
  15. Okay, I'm officially hopping onto the "worries" thread. That winning streak was smoke and mirrors.
  16. Beat writers saying the amputation went well and his new robot arm should have him back on the mound by June 2020 at the latest.
  17. Their entire front office is here: https://www.mlb.com/mets/team/front-office There's no obvious person who would have responsibility for it listed. the VP for Guest Experiences, maybe? Or their Marketing & Comms folks? It should be a reasonably high-level curator/museum/historian/librarian job, ideally. And there's nobody with a title anywhere close to that that I found.

  25. Great. Rookie pitcher. Pencil in seven shutout innings for the kid.
