  1. So glad I had Matz AND Gray in my lineup for their starts this week. So much for my last-ditch run for the top.

DAMMIT JOSE WE'RE TRYING TO GET YOU RELEASED HERE CUT IT THE HELL OUT That's so early June. If he's not gone from this team on August 1, he won't be gone before October 1. In fact, I'd guess a whole other Jose Reyes countdown is on. Twenty... Nineteen... Jose Reyes, 2019 Met. I wouldn't be surprised if those two dingers meant he had a shiny new contract waiting for him at his locker. Fans love the guy, you know. When we walked around the stadium during the last homestand and talked with every one of the 3,152 people who showed up to our last home game, they all said "we're here because of Jose Reyes."

  4. Frayed Knot wrote: A 3-0 deficit is clearly too much for this team to overcome. Except against marginal hurlers such as Milone in which case the Nats early 1-0 lead was likely sufficient. Yeah, this game is already pretty much over.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Thanks. I confess it was The Old Mole at FB who pointed out the happy coincidence between the score of the Mets' humiliation and the title of Chicago's 1971 soul/metal classick. For a song that clocks in a 4:50, there aren't a lot of words. In Chicago's defense, they *did* write it in the middle of the night.
  6. MFS62 wrote: maybe last night's game will be the spark the Wilpons need to get them going to help the team. "Okay! Let's break this team up. Who's ready to trade?" ... "Wait, the deadline was *YESTERDAY*?!?!?"
  7. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Standing pat may be the problem. They're not tearing down. But then they probably won't spend meaningfully to plug up the holes. They'll end up treading water and hoping for the next Michael Cuddyer -- some old geezer by baseball standards who was an all star six years ago, to wildly exceed expectations. Jeff: "Wait, is Cuddyer still available? Someone call his agent."
  8. Edgy MD wrote: I'd certainly be chuffed if Yakov Smirnoff bought in. You know, the stupid things you remember. I remember thinking his joke -- "In Russia, we have saying: 'women are like buses...' and that's it" -- was HILARIOUS as a kid.

RealityChuck wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: For a team with just about the worst record in baseball, the Mets sure do have a helluva lotta untouchables and guys that no one wants to see get traded. Ah, yes. That's just what the GM of the Braves said in the winter of 1969, when the Mets refused to part with six players (IIRC, Seaver, Koosman, Jones, Harrelson, Grote, and Amos Otis) for Joe Torre. He made a snide remark that the Mets had a lot of untouchables for a ninth place team. Six players for Joe Torre?!??!!
  10. Ceetar wrote: I don't think Happ is really much of anything to be excited about. Agree. Fills a need for the MFYs, I guess, and two more or less MLB-ready minor leaguers, even if they're utility guys at best right now, are better than nothing.
  11. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Having gotten that off my chest, the Jays on said to be on the verge of finding a new employer for RHP JA Happ although the specifics on his new address have yet to be revealed. The Yanx, the Cubs, and the Brewers are said to be hot on the trail of his tail. Looks like Happ to the Yankees is done for Brandon Drury + other stuff. Outfielder Billy McKinney, sez the internet. So basically eight or ten JA Happ starts in exchange for spare parts.
  12. There is virtually no reason to keep Bautista on the roster at this point. I'd rather have the low-A flier for him.
  13. How about we not find out who our new closer is tonight? Just win this fucker.
  14. Mets Willets Point wrote: They should give him Jeff McKnight's old number. Or, better, *all* of his old numbers, rotating every game.

  16. Fman99 wrote: No takers on a free ticket for tomorrow, plus bonus company from MF and the Fman clan? Meet the Fgang in real life! Man, I wish I could join you for the drive down and up, but I don't think I could make it happen.
  17. Centerfield wrote: This is good. Now we have a good bat off the bench for when Reyes needs a blow. Guarantee he gets two ABs this week to Reyes's twelve, and then they waive him to make room for Vargas or something.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Justin Turner to the DL ... Machado slides over to play 3rd. That's good, since that's where he's going to play here next year assuming Rosario remains viable at SS. Unfortunately, Todd Frazier isn't going anywhere, and even if he does, they won't spend the money on Machado when they can re-sign Reyes much cheaper.
  19. Centerfield wrote: Well, the GM's of the other 29 teams will anyway. Just a matter of time until some radio comedian releases a prank call where Ricco agrees to trade deGrom for a dead squirrel and fifty bucks.
  20. 41Forever wrote: Pitcher Daniel Poncedeleon making his Major League debut, 15 months after a line drive fractures his skull, goes 7 innings without giving up a hit. The last inning was a little shaky, but he got out of it. The true baller move would be for him to retire after the game. Doesn't get much better than that, Daniel. Frayed Knot wrote: Gary Sanchez loafed after the ball as it rolls part way towards 3rd base. He belatedly realized what was happening but rushed a bad throw to the pitcher covering. This is an "I Miss Old George" moment. He would have traded Sanchez first thing this morning for scraps.
  21. There's ZERO logic to Flores 1B/Reyes 3B over Flores-McNeil 3B/Smith 1B. Zero.
  22. Nymr83 wrote: Padres trade reliever Brad Hand to Cleveland for TOP PROSPECT catcher Francisco Mejia. just saying. Hand is under contract for two more years, though. So there's a lot more security for Cleveland in that trade.
  23. Jacob Rhame: Turning Japanese I really think so. Drew Smith: Running off the Rails in a Crazy Train This literally made me LOL.
  24. I would also love to have him back this offseason. A good dude by all accounts. Closing is tough -- people will always remember the blowups and not the 1-2-3 innings -- but I was usually very confident in him to get the job done.
