Yeah, I feel like Nimmo is our (best-case?) parallel right now. Regardless, it'll be a few years since we hear from him, so no worries.
  2. bmfc1 wrote: Mickey said yesterday that Bruce is healthy and as we learned from the "pressure of New York" comment, he'll find an excuse if he can. Bruce will be traded in July to a team that will take his contract and Sandy will take a AA reliever who never helps the Mets. And then he'll get a few big hits and we'll go "What the hell?" He's got two more years on this deal. He's not going anywhere until next summer at the earliest.
  3. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I'm amazed at all the $$ that was saved during the draft and is flying around now. I'm clutching my last few pennies like a nervous old grammy. Yeah, I feel like that was different in previous years. Lots less spent on draft day this year. My team is a disaster. I can't get any traction at all.
  4. I would recommend to Jay Bruce that from now on he should hit balls better and more often. You're welcome, Jay. BREAKING: ABNS named New York Mets assistant batting coach. In all honesty, I wonder if Bruce is the kind of guy who just got old quick. I mean, sometimes guys are done by their early 30s. It happens. Look at his similar batters on B-R (taking Reggie out of the equation as an outlier): Tom Brunansky - out of baseball at 33 Darryl Strawberry - didn't have a real, full, productive season after 29 Dean Palmer - last productive season was at age 31 Roger Maris - last productive season was at age 31, then lingered for two more seasons and was gone at 33 Dale Murphy - was on a HOF track until age 31 I know it's a different time, and I know I'm cherry picking a bit here. But still.
  5. "'Sup, fellas. Chatwood Wheeler here, Delaware LAX '14. Still play a little bit with the boys on the weekends, of course."
  6. "Why, Clarabelle, won't you go be a dear and fetch ol' Wheeler Chatwood a mint julep? He's had a long journey by horseback from Chattanooga."
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'd hardly say that we're exclusively seeing the same people come and go from the bullpen. There's been a long string of unfamiliar names appearing in relief for the Mets recently. The record is 40 pitchers in a season. We're a third of the way through the season and we're already at 22.
  8. MFS62 wrote: Binghamton lost 11-10 last night and Las Vegas lost 20-3. Crikey.
  9. HahnSolo wrote: One small correction, Conforto shirt night is tomorrow. Oops. Fixed.
  10. Jose Quintana, Southsider-turned-Northsider, takes the hill for the Cubbies. Quintana is 5-4, 4.78 this season, and has had two starts against the Mets, with nearly identical stat lines: 5/30/16 with the Sox: 7 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts --> http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=8754 9/12/17 with the Cubs: 7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts --> http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=9011 Cespedes has destroyed Quintana, but that won't help tonight. Bautista is 2-22 with both hits being home runs, however. EDIT: It's not Michael Conforto Jersey Night, though! That's tomorrow.

  13. Lefty Specialist wrote: RA Dickey's still out there, isn't he? Yeah, but wouldn't you rather have a 30-year-old career minor leaguer with a 1.7 career WHIP? He'll pitch for the major league minimum!
  14. Edgy says "they're calling up Scott Copeland." I say "WTH is Scott Copeland?" Turns out he actually exists, was scuffling along in AA, and now he's a bona fide New York Met. Supposedly. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/mets-scott-copeland-to-receive-promotion/ Seven things you didn't know about this new imaginary Met: * Gave up eleven runs in 15.1 innings in 2015 with Toronto. * 21st round draft pick by Baltimore in 2010 out of Southern Miss. * Is on The Twitters: * Is not related to Stewart Copeland, as far as I know. * 4-0, 3.81 in five starts in AA and AAA this season. That's the same number of W's as deGrom, which means he's probably just as good. * Has a career minor league whip of 1.696. (Yeah, that'll translate well to the majors.) * Actually started a game against the Mets: http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=8594
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Scott Copeland too. Who the heck is Scott Copeland? You made him up.
  16. d'Kong76 wrote: Of course, it would be a pitcher though... pardon my hair trigger. Not necessarily. They'd LOVE a fourteen-man staff.
  17. smg58 wrote: He can't possibly hurt. Give him like three innings the next few days and I'm sure he'll come down with something.
  18. Tim Peterson coming up for bullpen help, sez the internet.
  19. My lingering forever memory of Teheran will be the Father's Day game at Citi Field a few years back that my kids took me to. The Mets got a hit in the second inning while we were getting food, and nothing the rest of the game. In like the sixth inning, my daughter was like "do the Mets ever get to get a hit?" Sigh.
  20. Lefty Specialist wrote: This is one of those games where Mickey should leave Vargas in for seven innings no matter how badly he's being hammered. Two runs, six runs, fifteen runs, I don't care. Take one for the team, Jason. Absolutely. You get your paycheck either way, friend. Give us 110 pitches.
  21. Vargas vs Teheran, which might just be the worst mismatch in the history of baseball. The Braves could score 30 runs tonight.
  22. By his definition - one season inside the top 20, with no other seasons inside the top 50 in WAR - Yo counts, technically. But boy, Franklin Gutierrez's 2009 season was a big middle finger, wasn't it?
  23. According to B-R, Dykstra had a 6.6 WAR in 1993 -- but an 8.9 WAR in 1990. (!!)
  24. Centerfield wrote: I just checked with Dr. Internet. He says strained finger ligaments are 3-6 weeks. Dr. Spaceman, the Mets' team doctor, says he'll back next week. Or in 2020. "It's just so hard to tell."
  25. But hey! We've still got Healthy Jose Reyes!
