    Solo

smg58 wrote: It might simply be that only people who grew up with the original trilogy cared about a Han Solo origin story, and that people who grew up with the prequels care more about the MCU. This might make a lot of sense, actually. We saw it this weekend, and really loved it.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Sign him to an extension NOW!!!! and start changing the narrative. Agree on this. Get him and Thor in a room and sign them both through 2023 immediately.
  4. I have weirdly specific memories of Mets minor leaguers from that era, because I played a LOT of Micro League baseball back in the day, and I used to run the franchise, calling up and sending down guys quite a bit. I also used to pore over the Mets' annual books with all of the minor league stats. (For example, I *distinctly* remember Chris Bosio, in the news yesterday for other reasons, because he pitched a no-hitter against me.) So I do remember Bautista the pitcher being in the Mets system, because he had a good season in 1987 so I would have "called him up" at some point. I remember a handful of guys because they had productive Micro League seasons: Lou Thornton, Chris Jelic, Terrel Hansen, Joaquin Contreras, for example.
  5. I can't imagine *not* rooting for a comeback. I don't have any realistic notion that he'll be a key piece of a World Series team any more, but I want to see him back on the field again. Ten more home runs seems like a pipe dream, but you never know.

Both deals made perfect sense at the time. That's the risk that comes with a big contract, and you take the risk if you want the guy. (I'm for giving DeGrom that kind of extension.) I don't regret re-signing them, I regret that it didn't work out. That being said, I no longer think there is room for Cespedes on this team. An AL team in need of a DH would take two-thirds of his salary. Take that, get a centerfielder who can also hit, and let Nimmo and Conforto man the corners. Agree on all counts but the last part. I don't think anyone's going to take any piece of his salary until he shows he can stay on the field.

  8. Three additions to the all-time Mets roster this season all bunched together, alphabetically And Bashlor makes four: Tyler Bashlor (2018) Kevin Bass (1992) Antonio Bastardo (2016) Miguel Batista (2011, 2012) Buddy Baumann (2018) Ed Bauta (1963, 1964) Gerson Bautista (2018) Jose Bautista (2018)

  10. BUT Foli was in the Staub deal in 1972, so there's that.
  11. G-Fafif wrote: Reliever Tyler Bashlor reportedly on his way for tonight's game. Corresponding move: a heightening sense of resignation. Crikey. Your reminder that the record for most pitchers used in a season is 40. Bashlor would be #25. I can't wait until some crazy offseason quiz here in the Pool in 2022 when Greg guesses "Chris Beck and Tyler Bashlor" to a trivia question and we're all like "no, you totally made those guys up."
  12. smg58 wrote: Rockin' Doc wrote: Who was it that essentially told me strike outs are no big deal? All these strike outs are rally killers. A moderately deep fly ball or a slow roller gives Nimmo a chance to score the tying run. Watching 3 called strikes gives him no chance of advancing. Put the ball in play and force the defense to make plays. The Mets' cavalier approach to striking out and hitting into the shift would be acceptable if we had three or four guys on a pace to hit thirty home runs. As it stands, nobody is a lock to reach twenty. Exactly. You can only get away with having guys who strike out a lot if they're also hitting bombs. We ain't.
  13. Has one of the widest split perceptions of any recent reliever I can think of, in that I wouldn't be surprised if he gave up three straight home runs *or* struck out the side.

  16. G-Fafif wrote: If he needs to go on the DL immediately, the Mets will wait a few days. Yeah, you don't want to rush into these things. Better to wait it out and play shorthanded, then pinch-hit him on, say, Monday to find out it's really injured and reset the ten-day clock. I'm sure Swarzak or Gsellman can play second for a few innings if need be.

  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: deGrom is so low-key and un-flashy. He just gets the job done. It's a shame to see him pitch so well and have it wasted most times. On a decent team he'd have 10 wins by now. On a decent team he'd have twelve wins. Take out the one-inning game, the four-inning game, and the four runs in six innings game in Miami in April, and his ERA is 1.28 in his other twelve starts.

  22. deGrom will be the only Met representative. Nimmo will probably be one of the five "final vote" candidates or whatever they call it.
  23. I would hate trading either of the two big guns, honestly, along with Nimmo/Conforto and probably Rosario/Smith, but pretty much everyone else is fair game.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: because he obviously wanted the opportunity to be a Met. "My friend told me that they put you on the disabled list and because your contract is guaranteed you don't even have to play! You can just 'rehab' indefinitely and cash those checks, baby."
  25. Could you imagine what we'd be doing right now if Ohtani *had* signed here and this happened in June? Citi Field would be pitchfork city.
